fantastic luxury hotel
We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Puntarena! The lobby is breathtaking - like walking into a giant atrium - all glass and palms growing inside! The buffet restaurant serves a fantastic combination of seafood, pork and poultry primarily, fresh baked bread, a large variety of cheeses, organic vegetables and the deserts are fabulous! The oriental restaurant serves some of the best asian food I have ever had! The rooms are lovely and modern, with a magnificent view of canal paso malo on one side, or the ocean beach on the other! The entertainment is live and high caliber and the staff could not be more helpful and accommodating!
Clueless re buffets
The issue here was like a photocopy of what I said re the Melia Santiago de Cuba - they just don't have a clue about buffet management to protect against foodstuff cross contamination. If you are on any kind of a speciality diet then eat in this place at your own risk. I even asked one of the waiters could help me by pointing out what is and what isn't suitable for my diet. He said he couldn't as he wasn't the chef. I asked hotel reception to get me the duty manager to help and that turned out to be the head chef who genuinely tried to help. That though is brushing the fundamentals that they don't know how to manage a buffet for specialist diet requirements.
It may have been my first time in cuba, but i will be going back. and i will be staying at puntarena!!!!!!
I really do not have a complaint for this place. The beach was beautiful exactly what i was looking for, the pool was fabulous! The room was what i expected, we got what we paid for and i am glad. The weather was good, the fact that we were within walking distance of the town was a bonus!!! and the peopee!! OMG they were awesome. i had more of a blast with the cubans more then the canadians. crazy fun. And the food was not bad,it was not the best but then no one goes to cuba for the food, although we did get10 dollar lobster that was Delicious!!!! There is a disco everynight, which was a great work outt haha ah i just loved it. and all i have to say, those who complain are those who ruin their vacation... if you were expecting waaaaay more andwaaaay to highlybefore you went.. then pick a 5 star. and quit complaining. because it was amazing!!! and also if you are not wanting there to be lots of teenagers getting drunk... just dont go on spring break..easy as that.. its the same in canada or anywhereyou go.. its springbreak...
Directions: its tthe first hotel on the strip
this is a 3 1/2 star resort - but it felt like a 2 star.
If you are on the canal side you will be assulted with the sulpher smell coming from the sour gas wells on the far side of the canal. Pay the extra money and get ocean view.
Watch the elevators as they do not level with the floors and do not pop back open when they close on you.
Food is varied and ok - not great but you will not go hungry.
The beach is coarse crushed seashells for sand - bring swim socks. Alot of wave action this far down the beach as well so be careful.
Unique Quality: Spotter / sniper on the roof watching out for Cuba nationals !! See photos on the attached URL.
Some nice place to get lazy...
This Hotel is an all inclusive one. Not too big which is quite an advantage for me.
Quite nice and comfortable. lots of young people to meet. great private caribbean beach. What else do you need ?
