Hotel Oasis: far from the downtown area
  • Satisfaction:
  • It is a quiet place far from the downtown area. When we went it was about 20 % occupied the rest of the hotel was vacant. There is not much atmosphere and there is pretty much nothing to do there. The beach was closed 5 of the 7 days we were there because the waves were to big and the current too strong, so we could not go pedalboating or kayaking or go on the catamaran. There was a show every night, for exemple a magic show, music show ect.. When we went, there was no shuttle bus to take us to downtown varadero like the brochure said...so we had to take a taxi and it cost between 5 and 6 $ to go. The staff is very friendly and polite so if you go make sure you tip them generously since they work very hard especially the animators. The buffet was cold and the same food was served over and over again but that's the way it is in most hotels. Our room was clean and the maid was very nice, we had hot water and air conditionning. We could rent mopeds for about 9 $ an hour and 3$ each extra hour. There was no internet and we could not buy any calling cards. It is a very safe area, there were guards all around the hotel. This hotel is a 2 star hotel and from what I heard the Mar del Sur which is a 1.5 star is about the same quality. The Mar del Sur is cheaper and it is downtown so you save on the taxi costs...but that's what I've heard, I've never been there.

I would only recommend this hotel for older people who want to be far from the dowtown area and who want a quiet place. If you are young and want to party downtown choose another hotel and some hotels are even cheaper ! If you chose this hotel because it is cheaper than some of the other hotels think of the taxi fees. It cost us way more than we expected in taxis fees.
