Well night life exists
by Srechko about Comparsita, Discoteca La Bamba, Havana Club
These three clubs were open every night during our stay, but none of these were extremely exciting. Comparsita is located in town and you might like it if you can listen to commercial Cuban pop all night. As a good thing - you get to meet locals here. Havana Club is totally western oriented - no locals here - mostly hotel guests. La Bamba is somewhere n between, music is mix of cuban pop and popular world hits. Almost no locals here either. Also there is an open bar in front of hotel "Palma Real" (I think) in Varadero where live band plays every night. Locals and tourists mix here, but I didn't like the live band - too commercial. Go to Havan for some cuban jazz action!!!
Highlight of our Trip

We returned from the Palma Real March 1st. Everything about it, especially the staff, was very positive. During our stay we developed a fever(causes unknown) and were treated exceedingly well by the hotel's doctor and her 2 nurses. They were great. The front desk and restaurant staff readily spoke and understood English, French and German to satisfy most of the guest's requests. Our chambermaid was also very kind, leaving us a personalised hand written note the day we left thanking us for some clothing, trinkets and dollar tip we left for her daily. She also made wonderfully different designs on the beds with our towels. The only reason I didn't give a rating of 5, was because of the food. It was just OK. We got tired of the buffet after the third day and went outside the resort looking for options at restaurants where Cubans ate. Doing this, it became clear that Cuban food was simply pretty boring and plain, so it shouldn't be too much of a reflection on the Palma Real. Overall the Palma Real is very good value. You can go to a higher priced resort, but you're taking your chances by spending more than you have to.

We have been home only 3 days and are missing Cuba already. What made our stay so special was our hotel The Palma Real. The staff in the hotel just simply could not do enough for you. They are the friendliest of people i have ever come across. No matter how small or how big a request you would have they will do everything within their power to meet that request. The hotel is ideally situated for access to the beautiful beach. A 5minute walk is all that is required. The hotel even has your every need catered for on the beach with it's own bar and enertainment. It is there for you to use as you wish. The food is well varied and plenty of it with there being 4 different restaurants to choose from. What else can i say. Great service, freindly atmosphere and once you have been i am sure you will be just like me. You WILL want to return.

we stayed in the palma real in may 2003 for two weeks it was my first time visiting the carribean and i was a bit nervous. When we arrived our bags were taken to our room straight away. The rooms were lovely plenty of space everything was clean. The buffet was delicious plenty of variety, the chinese restruant was very quiet and the food very tasty.
During the day they have plenty of activities to keep you amused from water aerobics to dance lessons i found the entertainment at night to be pretty boring although there are few 24hour bars around varadero that are very cheap. While there we went on the dolphin trip it was very cheap and you got to swim with the dolphins in there natural habitat i would advise everybody who visits varadero to go. Overall i found cuba to be absolutly beautiful the people are very friendly and proud to live there
great all inclusive vacation!

Just got back for Varadero yesterday(Feb 17). We had a great time at Palma Real. We have travelled all over the world on tight budgets, but this was our first all inclusive experience. The rooms are quite nice, very clean, though fairly small(but how much time do you spend in them?). The showers were powerful and hot. Air conditioning kept out the humidity, but we turned them up (down?) as it was set quite cold.
The buffet was good. We generally stuck with whatever the chef was carving up for the meal as other items might be the same every day. The Pizzeria was good. The BBQ restaurant is poor. Didn't try the chinese.
The beach is pretty much right accross the street, so we weren't bothered by that at all, as well there was a hotel bar there and watersport items for our use. Overall, it was an excellent experience and we would go back in a hearbeat. The staff were very friendly and never asked for a tip (which we heard was unlike other properties), though a tip for good service was apreciated. Take the Jeep Safari tour if you want to see some caves and cuban countryside, and rent a scooter for a day to see a little more.

palma real - 28th Jan we landed - large room but next to main autopista (main road) number 4218 shower is good and room size good. watched castro on telly alot and movies in Spanish. We met some great friends out there ( Coner your email wont work)Calle 62 bar brill music and Artex was great for salsa and all inclusive drinks and enterance for $5Beach bar staff brill, and beach lunch food ok. Dont bother with BBQ or Chinese restaurant special nights instead go to the botanical park with 4 restaurants, the best lobster sit in the bar on the road and order lobster and prawn cocktail and paella. Spent two days in Havanna you will need $30 in one dollar notes or even smaller to fend off hustlers but we walked two hours into the old banking area and we met some great cubas. Very proud of their country and never asked us for money. This was the best holiday we have had in 5 years even better the mauritius! Contact Jkayhome1@aol.com for further info. We went with Cosmos and the best rep ever is Gillxx

I am in my 40's and thinking of staying at the Palma Real in November. Is it a pretty good Hotel for singles? Any other info on the Hotel would be appreciated.
