Maritim Varadero Beach Resort
in the top 5
The Maritim Varadero is now in the top best resorts in Varadero.
The resort is a very nice 5 star resort and is most similar to the Tryp Peninsila (next door).
The bech may get a little riugh it the top of the penninsula, but this resort is worth it.
It is very good for families with kids and alos couples since it feels as but romantic.
The food is great and the service awesome!
Iberostar Playa Alameda
Renamed in May 2005 to "Playa Alameda" (formerly called "Maritim Varadero Beach Resort" or "LTI Varadero"), I loved it here!
The grounds of the Alameda are beautiful! So many brightly coloured buildings, blue, orange, even pink. It lends nice coloured glows to the whole place. Every single area can be described as pretty. The grounds are large and full of palm trees, it feels more like a Spanish town than a resort. The beach--long long walk on endless sand.
The room we had was on the ground floor, the sheets and spread were very clean, beautiful and the air conditioning worked really well. The reddish marks on the edges of some of the pillows are from the pressing/ironing machines. Humongous bathtub! With separate shower stall.
The buffet was excellent as far as I was concerned. The roast beef was a little chewy but there was so much to choose from that you could just push something to the side of your plate and go back to try something different. The pasta was excellent. So were the breads, fish, and veggies.
The drinks were good, strong. My only complaint would be that the bar service was slow (one guy in particular) and the cups were too small, so you usually had to order 3 or 4 drinks at a time. Bring a big travel mug with you, this is the best way to go, especially when you're in the beach area.
You also had to wait in the lineups for coffee while they prepared each cup individually. It made for some cranky people in the mornings. There should be a coffee machine in the lobby area where you could just get your own. Tips don't speed up service it seems, I think the money goes to the hotel. The bartenders don't seem to notice at all who tips and who doesn't. Give the best server a $20 at the end of the week and save yourself the hassle of carrying small bills around. In your room fridge you'll find: 2 cans of cola, 2 sprite-type drinks, and 2 cans of beer.
Would definitely go back. A+++++++
