One of the highlights of our trip to Cuba was our 5 night stay over Christmas 2004 at Casa Muñoz. We were made very welcome during the Christmas season, including a fabulous Cuban Christmas dinner with extended family and friends and a Christmas concert at the church with the angelic voice of Julio's daughter Maria. Julio and Rosa and their daughters Maria and Carmen are truly delightful hosts and will make you feel very much at home. Julio is also a professional photographer, and offers workshops. Casa Muñoz is quite popular, however, and so it is advisable to email in advance and make a reservation.
Unique Quality: Why would anyone choose a hotel over such a delightful and historical place? This colonial house was featured in an issue of National Geographic. Casa Muñoz has two large guest bedrooms with a double bed in each. There is an open courtyard in back where the family lives, and access to a rooftop courtyard that looks out over the rooftops of Trinidad. A simple breakfast was included in the price. You will also meet Doris the horse, who lives in the back of the house, and several friendly dogs. But the best part is meeting the Cuban people who were consistently warm, generous and caring to us.
