If you want a bit of luxury then the Casa Granda hotel is very good. Located on calle Heredia next to parque céspedes. Very comfortable, attractive four star hotel. Has a great terrace bar overlooking the park. This picture is a view from it.

IF STAYING IN SANTIAGO DE CUBA, I RECOMMEND THE HOTEL CASA GRANDA, PICTURED HERE, WHICH IS A FOUR STAR JOINT RIGHT DOWNTOWN FACING THE SQUARE. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO AVAILABILITY WHEN I TRIED TO CHECK IN, SO ITS A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE AN ADVANCE RESERVATION.
A topic to visit - not only the Cathedral itself but there is also a museum inside named "Museo Ecleslastico" which has on display frescoes of the domenican friar Desangles.
We visited this famous square during X-mas time - talking with locals - visiting the famous "Trova" twice - having a cocktail and evening show in the hotel "Casa Granda"
An evening never to forget !
The park square is surrounded by the Town Hall, the Catedral de la Asuncion, and the Hotel Casa Granda. The rooftop patio of the hotel offers beautiful views of the surroundings, as well as a bar. The streets leading away from the park house many shops, restaurants, etc. to explore. In the park itself there are benches to rest on and there will likely be local musicians playing.
