Eco Tourism in Dominica

I stayed in the dorm with my cousin for 4 nights. When we arrived we were shown around by the staff. The bathrooms were a bit scary but eco friendly. Remember, this is an eco tourism resort/hotel/campsite. You can sleep in the cabins which were nice with hot water. The dorm is basically a banana shed with galvanized roofing, cement floors, and banana leaf walls. The dorms get a bit cold at night. This part of the island is very wet and humid. Expect to be wet and don't expect much to dry completely. The river flows loudly, but its beautiful and relaxing to me. The restaurant is over priced. The food is good...but...unless you want to pay a lot bring your own food. I felt a bit uncomfortable asking for supplies to cook because they kind of made me feel bad. The hotel is a bit away from things. The beach is about 30 minutes away. Loads of hiking opportunities around! The owner Jem is a cool British guy. A bit weird, but the place is amazing. He is very eco concious. He has plenty of awards and eco labels to proove that. There is also some cool accomodations deeper in the woods...such as a tree house.

Unique Quality: It is an eco-lodge for the most part. Very good and sustainable. The river is awesome and is very clean and beautiful. You can take a bath in the river with organic soap! I definetely loved taking a bath while it was raining. Awesome! Good views of high peaks and cliffs. Good place to relax and learn about sustainability. Jem also had a few volunteers working there. They got free accomodations and food. If you want to volunteer just ask him.
