by starship As mentioned in previous tips, the Casa de Campo Resort encompasses 7,000 acres of beaches, some of the best golf in the Caribbean if not the world, a marina, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and the artisans Village of Altos de Chavon. Within Casa de Campo you will find a hotel complex, rental villas, vacation homes and more. All accommodations have upscale furnishings and bedding, air-conditioning, bathrobes, vanity & dressing areas, irons, hair-dryers, cable TV, Bose Wave Radio, safes, mini-bar and coffee makers, not to mention private terraces. Located in the resort are numerous restaurants including: 19th Hole; Cafe de Sol; Chinois, Lago Grill,; El pescador; Tropicana Grill and at least 3 other restaurants!! In addition to golf, you will find plenty of beach, watersports, biking, pools, equestrian center, skeet & trap shooting, and night-time entertainment. Activities for families are not forgotten nor are numerous excursions that can be booked from the hotel. This place is not for the light of pocket, but those who vacation here probably don't have to worry about that! However, specials can sometimes be had, so it would be wise to consult your travel agent or if all else fails, surf the net!! EMI Sun Village pool areas by jodssmile Friendly staff. Saw some other hotels in area, this one does appear newer, cleaner and more beautiful. The only downfall is the nightlife and entertainment is poor. Food is good. Expect some ants in each room, but they were not a big problem, more of small nuisance. Nice beachfront area. They will try to sell you some shares, not hard sell. Just see presentation. Rooms had iron, board, coffee maker and much needed umbrella. Bed comfortable. Air conditioner and fan and deluxe room has own balcony with 2 chairs.Hotel offers only bottled water and ice-do not drink tap water. I just put more pictures under an album travelogue for more shots of this resort- for those who are looking at hotels.
Many pools were being cleaned often. Has kid pool. Ocean is clean. But some glass always floats in and occasion rocks are sharp, wear watershoes. Men have to wear pants only to one nighttime supper club. Pack one pair for week is more than enough. Otherwise, think beach and shorts. Casa Marina Resort by Spinka Quite small, I mean it was quite small when I was there in 2000... Very homelike. The staff took very good care of cleanness. A few small, one or two floor buildings, form a resort. One apartment consists of livingroom, bedroom and bathroom. Small swimming pool with bar (very good idea!!!) near the restaurant on the open air... Few steps to the beach and ocean... Silence, no crowd on the beach, spare deck chairs, towels and water sport gears... Animators were taking very good care of guests during the day (I especially appreciated aqua-aerobic) as well as in the evenings, when they play humorous spectacles. And merenque... everywhere... merenque :) Theme: OtherDirections: Samana Peninsula

In 1995 I spent a weekend in the beautiful hotel. The house is build like an old caribean manor house with bowfronts, very lovely ... The hotel belongs to the Occidental group and I believe that it is still good ...
Don't remember the price but anyway it would have changed much during the last years.

The beach was "where it was at" :-) by TheTravelSlut, 4 more photos The Travel Slut Top 10 Tips for Bahia Principe Resort & Spa in Punta Cana: 1) Upgrade to the Royal Golden Principe club which entitles you to a room closest to the beach area and several other worthwhile amenities. If you do, remind your driver to drop you off at each special lobby. 2) Bring a "coozie" or insulated cup if you plan beach or pool time. Ice in your drink will melt before you can reach your lounger. 3) Expect staff to greet you with "Ola" and a smile no matter where you are on property. 4) Different color wristbands identify your classification as regular, diamond or gold members. 5) Bell service is essential. They are quick and friendly and run 24-7. 6) Be sure to check out the Principe "Village" of shops, casino and outdoor entertainment near the resorts' entrance. 7) Ask for two room keys. You can then leave one in the power socket so when you exit the room the air conditioner remains on. 8) Make your dinner reservations for the theme restaurant of your choice early in the day as they tend to be filled up after 3 PM 9) If you want to check daily activities or check a map of where you are on property, look for the large marquee-type signs at various tram-trolley stops along the resorts central walkway. 10) Be sure to allow plenty of time for check-out. You will need an exit ticket from reception indicating you have settled your bill prior to leaving This resort came recommended and I can see why.
The resort's 1,500 junior suites on 3 separate but adjoining properties all have modern amenities, are spacious, & clean, My room was #1101 & closest to the beach & pool. 24 hour room service included. There are 6 bars including a swim-up bar. Odalis is the best bartender @ the lobby bar. He's funny, charming, & makes a great "Dirty Monkey". There are several themed restaurants: Japanese, Mexican, Steak House, Fish & Spanish. All require reservations & dress-up. There are 5 pools, a childrens section and all are very nice. Non-motorized sports & activities are included @ 1 hr. per day. There's an activity director w/staff who keep people busy poolside/beachside if so desired. All watersports are offered. Remember at latitude 17, you will sunburn quickly. I didn't use the spa/gym this trip but they are full service and new. The resort property is HUGE. It's 1/2 mile long trolley-tram service between lobby & beach-pool area is in a loop so excessive walking is not a major concern. Food: good variety & selection, above average quality, & choice of buffet or reservation-only/sit-down dinners. The teppanyaki-style Japanese dinner I had was OK & similar to a Benihana's. Drinks: Domestic beer & rum offered. Top shelf liquor was available but not included. NOTE: premium wine was not available. Someone found me a "premium" bottle @ $24 U.S.. It was a $5 Woodbridge white zin. Pool bar drinks were not as good as other bars on property. There were enough loungers & beach/shade. Entertainment: Staff did nightly shows outdoors & while the music & dancing was fine, it was too hot & some people left early. A few things I did not understand: 1) The in-room safe required an extra charge 2) The available wine was limited to primarily 1 brand 3) The outdoor entertainment was uncomfortably hot at night. 4) Why are the pools shut down at 8 PM? Hacienda Lifestyles Tropical Beach Resort by Jim_Eliason, 4 more photos This hotel is part of a huge complex on Cofresi Beach, a few Kms west of Puerto Plata. The complex includes hotel, bungalows and Condo timeshare rentals. The resort had good food, great facilities and a nice beach at a reasonable price. Only caution is to be careful about the extras, everything from changing money, booking tours or buying basic supplies is horrendously expensive at the hotel. Plus they seem to use a floating exchange rate to their advantage. The real rate was 34 pesos to a dollar, but it became 29 when they owed me change. 30.5 to change money(plus a 3% commission), however when I owed them money the exchange rate went up to 35. Also, be aware that they are a timeshare association and they will hit you up multiple times to attend their timeshare pitch. However if you ignore the pleas to go to the timeshare meeting, use an ATM for money and buy tours and supplies from the little business district on Cofresi beach. It is a great value for money.

Time for Beisbol! by 416Guy We stayed at the Costa Dorada. At the time it was only half built, so one side was not open. Still it is a very big resort and there were lots of people. It's located next to the Playa Dorada, which is a multi-complex of 14 resorts, with clubs, casinos, golf and everything else you could want. We had lots of activities, the staff here goes out of their way to get you involved, they were great! Theme: HotelComparison: more expensive than average
