Accommodations: Most visitors stay in Playa Dorada, about 20 minutes from Puerto Plata's La Union International Airport. This horseshoe-shaped complex includes more than a dozen resorts, several discotheques, a shopping mall, numerous restaurants and an 18-hole golf course. Only guests and hotel vehicles are permitted within the Playa Dorada complex.
Playa Dorada is located on the Atlantic side of the island. Although the sea here is choppier that its Caribbean counterpart on the south shore, a gentle breeze makes it popular with windsurfers, boogie boarders and families that enjoy playing in the surf. Other visitors to the island are simply content to lie on the beaches lined with majestic palms.

if you book thought the hotel it work,s out about £40 per person per night all inclusive.
if you book with holiday company it work,s out to about 6-7 hundred for two week,s all inclusive,first choice are the company i traveled with.
you can get some cheap apartment,s to rent they range from £100 a week but you have to buy food etc.
The hotel is a 4* hotel that offer,s a all day activity program.
There are a number of thing,s that you can do from just lying beside the pool to joining in with the many activity,s.
the activity,s are archery,pool volleyball, boccia[like bowl,s] , water aerobic,s ,cocktail lesson,s ,dart,s ,shuffleboard and many more.
there are three pool,s the activity pool which is the main pool, the banana bar which is more quite and there,s a kiddie,s pool.
there,s a kids mini-club as well.
in the evening,s there,s a mini disco for the children then there are live show,s every night.
there is an on site nightclub with opening,s monday to saturday from 11pm till 2am[no kid,s allow thought].
sunday the disco is closed but the activity guy,s do run a bus that take,s you to the local nightclub,s adorada or crazymoon.
they also do night,s to hemingway,s which is a karioke bar so those of you who like to sing you must go there.
they do night out to the local casino as well.
they dont provide transport back to the hotel thought,it,s about 10-15 minute,s walk or you can alway,s get a cab outside.

Normally you can get there by a travel agency package, it is worth; the flight and the hotel are inclusive in the price.

Hotel Riu Melao
Very good hotel with excellent food and very friendly people.
I was very surprised to see the reception, no windows or doors (see picture). Theme: OtherDirections: 23 km from the airport of Punta Cana and 55 km from the city of Higuey, the hotel is right on the beach, amid magnificent coconut palms.

I was in hotel Don Juan in BOCA CHICA.
Just one little problem : you sometimes have no water in the morning !!!
Some years ago, it was a fishermen village ... now, it's in development but not yet a very important touristic area, what I really appreciate.
The beach is beautiful.

in Dominican Rep. is very recommendable to join an all inclusive resort. A fantastic complex is the Barcelo Bavaro (see www.barcelo.com) with 5 hotels Beach, Garden, Casino, Golf and Palace where you can choose between 8-15 restaurants, dozens of bars, all kind of entertainment during day and night..
and also there can be several thousand people on the resort together, you never will be treated as a number
