excellent waterfront resort

$10 for a single room with bathroom, fan and cable TV is hard to beat. Otherwise basic but clean. For some of the rooms the BR is only separated from the rest of the room by a curtain rather than a door, but it is in a relatively nice area downtown and the hotel has its own generator for the frequent power outages
I checked two other cheap hotels in town and they both wanted to charge $1.50 USD more for a much less appealing situation.
VERY GOOD hotel - the usual things to be found in the Carib - minor things that bother those who think the world might actually revolve around them. Wonderful staff - I could not have asked for nicer people - better food or a more beautiful place to stay.
NOT a five star but, hey, you want a nice place to stay ? With a casino and a real international crowd - this was it for me. Had a blast and never knew the French could drink SO MUCH or had such beautiful singing voices !!

We spent our last two nights here as it was closer to the airport in Puerto Plata. It was very convenient and situated right on the beach. This is where all the surfers come and it is really quite enjoyable watching the surfers or the kitesurfers take off.
This hotel also offers a lot in regard to sport:
Kayaks and Boogie boards are available free of charge
A beginners course for 1.5 hours is also offered free of charge.
I liked the open air bar and restaurant on the beach. Very nicely decorated with a sand floor. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 pm.
Also there is high speed internet access but dont forget to bring along your Cat5 Ethernet cable to attach to your notebook.
The food here was OK but nothing to get excited about.
The hotel owner and staff were very helpful especially Jacqueline the Swiss lady who was responsible for the restaurant.

Love it!!! Stayed here twice. The owners are very friendly and know a lot about things to do and places to go. During our first trip, the owner arranged for us to go w/ his friends to Isla Saona (2 hrs away) for an all day exursion. He lent his friend his personal car and asked them if we could come along. This hotel is a modern and remodeled building in Zona Colonial.
Breakfast is included (eggs, cheese, meats, fruit, bread, fresh juice, coffee)
Free internet use
Walking distance to restaurants and shops
Clean
Home-like feeling
I think we paid about US$70/nt for a room w/o AC

The Paradisus Palma Real Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive awesome resort. Their facilities are top notch. The beach at this resort is beautiful, very open & is public. Their are many places to dine, either casual or cocktail. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, accomodating and were English friendly. There are so many activities & excursions to choose from (some included with resort, some not). There were lots of weddings & honeymooners.... great place for a wedding. There were also many families & children. We didn't take our children on this trip, but there would have been plenty for them to do (kids club, game room, theatre).
Their are many so many water-sport activities to choose from right in front of this resort. There is entertainment for each night and there is also a casino in the resort. The Spa is WONDERFUL! There is a shopping village right beside the resort which was very nice. We found lots of souvenirs plus some extras. The Paradisus resort will shuttle you back & forth at no charge. There is an unlimited green fee at the Cocotal Golf Course.

I love this place! If my friend would have allowed it, I would still be there now... on the beach, sporting dreds, and painting.
My hotel was in the best location, I feel, to take in all of the sites.
The poorest of Americans are still able to live like Royalty, here. Contrary to popular belief, I found this place safe as can be. All you need to do is what you would do anywhere- look out for yourselves and try and have the best time. The only risk I took was paying twice what I would pay if I had known Spanish or the area, for my moped rides (still cheaper then taking a cab around Naples, FL, where I had flown out of).
For a touch of home, you will be able to speak English with the staff here... But I prefer to exchange smiles with the friendliest bartender I have ever encountered, Flo. Flo does not speak english, but she makes a mean Rum Punch using fresh, local juices.
I actually stayed here last year, so I'm writing from that memory. It cost around $30 for the night and it's the closest Cabanas to Puerto Plata on the way to Confresi/Sosua, etc. There were roaches and graffiti on the wall. My personal opinion...pay a few dollars more and go to Cabanas Isla del Paraiso less than a mile down the road.
Q: Ideas for interesting trips from Punta Cana "Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice of trip ideas from Punta Cana. I have had a tough time finding appropriate information..."
A: "I don't know what time of year you are talking about - I have been to the DR two or three times in January, but not to Punta Cana. I've been twice by cruise ship to..."
