Beachfront Hotel
by bianchis about Villa Taina ****
We spent our last two nights here as it was closer to the airport in Puerto Plata. It was very convenient and situated right on the beach. This is where all the surfers come and it is really quite enjoyable watching the surfers or the kitesurfers take off.
This hotel also offers a lot in regard to sport:
Kayaks and Boogie boards are available free of charge
A beginners course for 1.5 hours is also offered free of charge. I liked the open air bar and restaurant on the beach. Very nicely decorated with a sand floor. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 pm.
Also there is high speed internet access but dont forget to bring along your Cat5 Ethernet cable to attach to your notebook.
The food here was OK but nothing to get excited about.
The hotel owner and staff were very helpful especially Jacqueline the Swiss lady who was responsible for the restaurant.

Cabarete Hotels

I heard that many hotels in Cabarete don't allow for you to bring guests to your room. I understand the rationale being that they do not want to cater to prostitution, but what if a young single gent like myself meets someone through more conventional means? I cannot have them to my room? I am staying at Villa Taina, which I understand to be one of Cabarete's finest, making this seem even more uncertain. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Most resorts in the Caribbean don't allow you to have outside guests in your room because of the reason you mentioned. You can however purchase a day pass for you friend which allows her to spend the day with you and enjoy all the amenities of the resort. Most passes are valid only til 6 pm. You could go to her house if you are so inclined or rent a room at a motel. There are many small motels in Cabarete. Or you can spend a beautiful night on the beach. Enjoy your vacation.
