Great destinations of the beaten track
"Las Terrenas, Samana"
There is much to see and do here, but until now, little information has been presented about this somewhat remote but rapidly growing part of the Dominican Republic. Nearby are the waterfalls of El Limon, to be reached only on horse back, through a tropical forest, passing by streams where you will encouter the dominican women doing their laundry. Another fantastic trip is to the mangrove woods of Las Galleras.
Las Terrenas itself is full of little bars and restaurants, with plenty of night life. Here the locals will be happy to teach you how to dance the merengue, they are stars themselves and a real joy to watch if you feel too hot yourself to participate.
You can get around by renting a car, motorbike, quad, jeep or bicycle or simply hop on one of the many motoconcho's, a moped taxi used by locals and tourists.
Las Terrernas can be reached by small airplane, to the local airport of El Limon, a dusty runway surrounded by palm trees and tropical vegetation. Arriving this way, you will get your first glimps from the air and will fall in love right away.
