Hotel/Restaurant Balanza: Sleeping in the restaurant!

This was among the strangest places where I stayed during my trip. "Balanza" is actually a very nicely decorated restaurant, however they also have 2 rooms to rent. As I didn't have too many options in Suchitoto, and the room they showed me here was decent, I decided to spend the night here. Funny, after they closed the restaurant for the night, I was totally alone in here - strange but OK.

Room was in interesting surroundings (see photos), bath (clean and large - but shared with restaurant customers) was located a few steps outside, and of course a nice restaurant was right there - next to the bathroom. Ok place for one night. I paid US$10 for 1 bedroom.

La Posada

La Posada de Suchitán is a very confortable hotel, nice views of the lake...Reservations recommended at week-ends

La Posada Hotel: Room with a View

The hotel and restaurant was build in the last 10 years but you would swear that it was a couple of hundred years old by its architecture. It is very well kept up and clean. I stayed in one of the seven colonial rooms. Instead of one big entry door there are two french type doors to the entrance and you are issued a big old "dungeon" key. The room was quite colorful in design with beautiful tile floors. You have private bath, hot water(La Posada has its own water supply which is a plus because Suchitoto frequently will not have running water for two to three days at time!), room service, telephone, and television if you should want or need it. Air conditioning would be nice but is not available so not much is required for nightware.

I did tour one of the suites that overlook the valley and Lago de Suchitlan...they are literally hanging over the edge of the cliff...about 300 meters to the valley! The rooms are quite nice.
There is also a swimming pool, banquet rooms, conference center and of course the wonderful restaurant(see restaurant tip)
