Five Stars? Someone's seeing double...

The Sheraton El Presidente is billed as a five-star luxury hotel in the Zona Rosa district of Colonia San Benito, San Salvador. There is no possible means by which this hotel could ever be billed as a five-star accommodation. I may be biased by the fact that they stuck me in the cabanas for two and a half weeks, but if the cabanas are part of the hotel, then there is no way that this is a luxury establishment. The door was a flimsy sliding door that could be opened using a screwdriver or a swift pull. I routinely had to reassemble the furniture, as the lamp continually fell apart. The communicating doors with the two rooms on either side were so thin I could hear the people breathing in the next rooms. The light in the fridge was burnt out. The toilet turned a disgusting colour over the course of my stay as the maid clearly did not feel it was necessary to clean much if I was staying the entire two and a half weeks. Ah, yes, the maid, who, after cleaning my room in the morning, let herself in without knocking while I was watching TV during the afternoon. The breakfast was decent, but certainly not worth the ten dollars charged (watch out, if you eat from the buffet on the terrace it's double the price). Service in general was spotty, as the staff seemed to do things only when they felt like doing them. The gym was small and well kept, but the people manning the desk seemed to disappear at random times, forcing you to wait for up to 15 minutes to get a locker key. Needless to say, I was glad to leave after two and a half weeks.

Unique Quality: The hotel had exactly three good qualities: (1) it's safe; (2) it has free wifi in the rooms; and (3) it's steps from the beautiful Museo del Arte, so you have at least one activity close by. The pool was ok but nothing special. I only ate breakfast at the hotel, since the restaurant was ridiculously overpriced compared to La Pampa Argentina only five minutes away.

Friendly and comfortable

This is a fabulous hotel with excellent staff and amenities. The pool area is delightfully large and tropical and there's even a green to practice putting. Of note are the cabana-style rooms beside the pool - rooms with huge glass door and kitchenettes - perfect for a short-term business traveller.

The food however, is vile and not at all representative of the excellent meals to be found on the streets and in the fine restaurants which dot the neighborhood. If the Sheraton could improve their kitchen, they'd have a first-class establishment.

Unique Quality: The staff are all extremely friendly and caring.

The best hotel in El Salvador

I lived in San Salvador for 2 years. I have stayed there , and plus I had a lot of business dealings with them as well. It is the largest as far as the grounds. The service, the rooms, the pool area well its only to see to really to understand how beautiful it is. If you ever need anything ask for Rocio, she is the Dir. of Human Resources, and I promise she will help you in any way that she can. I love this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have traveled all of mexico and central america, and it is my favorite.....

Unique Quality: The pool side is wonderful!!!!it is so huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!very relaxing!!!!and hard to believe you are in the capital city.......
