Please note though this property is quite spread out and there are hilltop rooms so bring those sneakers.
The Spice Island Beach Resort is on Grand Anse Beach ( most popular beach on the island ) and is just as lovely with a great staff.
This property is unique b/c it is frequented mainly by people from the UK who stay a minimum of 10 nights. This resort is popular w/ repeat clients as well as newly weds.

In August/September 2007 I stayed with my husband and my two children at the Rex, a great 3,5 stars hotel not far away from the airport and located on two of the most beautiful beaches of Grenada. I never thought that Grenada is so beautiful. I feel like I`m in paradise.
No stress, nice weather, beautiful sightseeing and a great landscape with waterfalls.
Also good cooking in a lot of restaurants nearby the hotel (maybe 5 - 10 min. by car or taxi).

The resorts are usually on the beach or close to the water. The Great houses are usually inland on hillsides or near lakes with commanding views. The latter are good for inland forays and eco-activities. Hey no where is far from the beach in Grenada...the choice is yours.  Mangi House window view by hattifnatten
We stayed at free-standing Mangi House, built by a canadian artist, with nothing but a view of little beach and trade-wind-shaped trees and palmtrees, with a gigantic glass window, terrace and incredible sunrise views.
Aside from a complete isolation ( you need a 4x4 to get to Mangi House, though a regular car is okay for the apartments, which are at the windswept hill protruding into the ocean), and the incredible stars at night, the food is outstanding, though you have to pay extra for it and request it in advance.
Additionally, you can use email and other facilities, and the manager ( who happens to be a very good cook) can give recommendations on what to do on the island, which tend to be spot on.
Additionally, there are three practically empty (apart from occasional local fishermen) beaches within walking distance : one with waves, and two -- without. The only negative things I would have to say are the shower pressure was really bad and so was the pressure in the bidet which made it inoperable, and, this was one of those places where the men had to dress in trousers for dinner. The room service menu was not great either. The hotel was having some phone problems while we were there and the phones were out for two days. They don't have electrical transformers so I was invited to charge my cell phone in the lobby.
Your breakfast menu was requested the evening before. At your requested breakfast time , staff would set the table outside of your door on your private patio and serve breakfast. Be careful of the birds! They know exactly when you are done and will swoop down for the leftovers. They watch from the roofs!
They have a large grassy area next to the beach, and a more casual beach restaurant and bar area. We did have lunch here a couple of times and the food was good. I would recommend the chicken salad which was called something like "coronation chicken" or something like that, it was in a curry mayonaise and really yummy.
It was really hot here though for some reason. Maybe they just didn't have a breeze in the area.
The staff were all pretty friendly and the service was good.
We enjoyed our stay here, it was very comfortable and a great way to end our trip.

Forget about their "store" do your shopping for groceries over at the supermarket behind GA beach and grab a cab to get back if you're hauling much stuff. Kitchens are well outfitted.
The beach at Morne Rouge is GREAT and proximity to GA beach is about 10 minutes walking if you really need more people or another place to eat. Pass on the restaurant next door, up the hill at the Mariposa -food is OK but over priced. The Sur la Mer at the Gem is a better deal but more casual. The Gem is located on Morne Rouge Bay, next to the best beach in Grenada-Grand Anse, and provides a fairly isolated location right next to all the touristy attractions (best of both worlds). The views from the rooms are fantastic.
The restaurant (Sur La Mer) is undergoing renovation, so a limited menu is available from a makeshift restaurant, but you can still get meals delivered to your room.
