SAINT FRANCOIS GUADELOUPE: Hôtel Club MANGANAO

by Louisanna

Famille Coco-Petit: A room with seaview and good food

by Pieter11

When I spend my three months on Guadeloupe, following a French course on a language school, I spend my night in an appartment in Sainte-Anne, with the family Coco-Petit. This familiy lives in the centre of town and rents out small appartments to students of this language school, but also to everybody else who is interested.

My appartment was very comfortable with a double bed, a small private kitchen and a small bathroom with toilet and shower. The room was clean and the location was great: with seaview and at 5 minutes from the town-centre and the beach.

The family offers meals as well: a simple breakfast and often very good dinners. You can choose to have a room including or excluding meals, but the meals are really good so it's worth trying some!

The prices depend on which appartment you choose and how long you're staying, and of course whether you take meals or not, but they're starting at € 36,- per night: a lot cheaper then a hotel!

www.couchsurfing.com: Gwada for free

by Pieter11

Ever heard of the website www.couchsurfing.com? I'm a member of this online-community since a few years now and I love it! Couchsurfing is a network of people from all over the world who offer a free place to sleep to other members. The principle: you spend a night for free at my place and if I ever get in your neighbourhood I can spend a night at yours.

One of the two advantages of "CS" is the fact that your stay is for free. Of course it's nice to buy a small present for your host, but it's very different from a 80+ euro hotel. The biggest advantage though is the fact that you'll get in contact with the local people. They'll let you into their houses and into their lives and offer you a great insight in the local culture.

On Guadeloupe there are quite a lot of Couchsurfers offering a couch, so if you're going there why not sign-up and try it out one time?

La Formule Economique: The economic formula of Le Gosier

by Pieter11

It is very difficult to find a cheap place to stay on Guadeloupe. Especially in the touristy area's like the westcoast of Basse-Terre and the southcoast of Grande-Terre finding an hotel is no problem at all, but being able to pay for one is a bigger issue. For simple rooms without any special extra's you will easily need topay 100 euro's or even a lot more.

Fortunately in Le Gosier, at 15 kilometres east from Pointe-à-Pitre, you'll find the hotel "La Formule Economique". The name speaks for itself: this is made to be a cheap option and it is. The good thing is: you only pay for what you really need.

If you want a breakfast: fine, but you'll pay extra for it. If you want airconditioning: fine, but if you don't pay extra you'll just get a fan. Like this the hotel manages to offer a decent room for only 45 euro's a night: a real bargain for a place like this.

The hotel is basic, but very good quality. The rooms are clean, you'll have a private bathroom and a good bed, and restaurants, bars and shops are at walking distance.

Le Touloulou: A small paradise in Marie-Galante

by Pieter11

At two kilometres west from Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante, directly at the Caribbean Coast, you'll find the very pleasant Hotel Le Touloulou, named after the red sandcrab that you find a lot on all the islands of Guadeloupe. A big drawing of this little crab will draw your attention: you can't miss it.

At Le Touloulou they rent bungalows for a decent price and of a very decent quality. For 50 euro's per night for two persons (or 60 euro's for three persons) you have a small bungalow with a private bathroom and airconditioning, with a private terrace and with the blue sea at only 10 metres away.

The restaurant on the same complex offers good food, and there is a small discotheque as well. A must is to take the breakfast on the beachside. Just move your table into the sand and enjoy your fresh juice and french bread under the palmtrees. This breakfast costs you (a little bit overdone) 8 euro's extra per person.

Kazajo: Private home

by shaula

There are plenty of private homes for rent. We found ours on www.abritel.fr. The house we chose was in Le Moule, a small village in the east part of Grande Terre. The owner is a very nice Frenchman which gave us a lot of tips on what to do on the island.
The house is in front of the ocean with a well kept garden. A nice beach is 5-minute walk away. The house itself is well equipped. We appreciated the AC in the bedrooms.
You must rent a car since all shops are quite far.

Hotel Arawak: Good hotel, good location

by MickeH

We travelled unspecified and ended up at Arawak hotel in Gosier on Grande Terre. This was a stroke of good luck it turned out. The hotel is right on the beach, with it's own stretch of ocean.
It's a clean and comfortable hotel and it is located very well, close to central Gosier and right next door to the casino. The casino sucks by the way, but that's another story.

One thing though is that everyone speak french, and nothing but french. So it was very difficult to get information and and kind of interaction with the staff.
And I don't know if roomservice get paid by the number of rooms they clean or what the deal is because if you have a 'do not disturb' sign on the door they simply take it down and clean anyway...

But overall a good hotel that I wouldn't mind coming back to.

Secure and free parkinglot.
Wifi access at the bar. It's expensive though, €7/h.

Le Jardin Malanga: Tropical garden and wonderful views

by filip007

A delightful small hotel hidden in a tropical garden, with a great view on the Les Saintes islands, high above the Trois Rivieres town.

It consists of a colonial house built in 1927 and 6 cottages hidden among the vegetation.

The restaurant is open for hotel guests in the evenings and offers wonderful meals mixing local ingredients and worl cuisine.

A small, charming hotel with great views directly from your bedroom, a terrasse for relaxing, great food, nice swimming pool with a view of the ocean and the islands, lush tropical garden... You can hardly get more romantic.
