duty free

it was suggested to purchase cuban rum and cigars at the duty free at the airport. are you allowed to bring it back to the states or will it be confiscated?
Re: duty free

It will most likely be confiscated if they find it. Goods manufactured in Cuba are not allowed into the US.

The cigars definitely will be confiscated.

I have brought both back and never had a problem. Cigars incarry on never more than 5. On the Rum I prefer Guatemalan Ron zacapa (sp). Flor de Canya is very good though.

lagoatitlan2002,
Just a question: Did you declare them or just put them in your suitcase? I have also brought back cigars from Cuba and never had a problem either, most likely because they didn't find them. It doesn't matter if its one or a hundred, if US customs finds a cigar or any product made in Cuba, they will confiscate them.

Didn't declare them. I have only been asked about cigars once in New Orleans, And dodn't have any that time. If you are woried about the risk it is best not to get them, becuase they are exspensive and you could lose them. For my taste Dominican cigars are just as good and I have already commented about the rum. The cuban stuff is mainly just for the novelty as for as I am concerned.

Sorry, I should have proof read before posting. Is there a way to edit after the fact?

Guatemala has some of the best rum anywhere, known as Ron Zacapa Centenario. It would be crazy to risk something that could be confiscated when you could legally bring in something that is outstanding.

Did not see wildlife? - no problem

There is a large zoo in the vicinity of the airport. Here, in a very pleasant atmosphere (for the visitors I am not sure about the animals) one can see exotic animals in their practically natural environment. I was after something very specific though. I had heard many stories in both Mexico and Guatemala about the Quetzal. This special bird was on of the two-faced God and curse of Mexico's, Quetzalcoatl and it has been depicted on many occasions all over the country. In Guatemala Quetzal is no less popular (let's leave these Spanish divisions, it is all about the Maya) everyday life is unthinkable without him. He is on the banknotes and circulates day and night between countless hands.
Unfortunately there was no Quetzal in the zoo. Probably they decided that it is too common to be of interest. Instead, I got to glimpse at TUCAN and he enchanted me. What a beak, especially compared to the body. This adoration lasted quite a bit, namely till I saw its brother from Brazil. No wonder the spell of the Guatemalan bird was broken - it was 5 times bigger and beak, oh, the beak!

Post Office Building.
by euzkadi
This building was built between 1937 and 1940 under Jorge Ubicos´s regime. The arch over the 12th street is one of the landmarks of the old city and was inspired in the Arch of Santa Catalina in Antigua. Used to be the Post Office Directorate but now is a cultural center.

"Guatemala"
I went to almost all de cities and towns around Guatemala. The Vegetation is Beautiful!!
"Lake Peten Itza"
This lake is one hour from the Famous Piramids of Tikal, I went today, so I will upload pictures really soon!!
"Antigua"
This is a lovely and beautiful place. If you come to Guatemala, you can´t miss Antigua. It is a colonial place that still keeps its same architecture. And there you can find beautiful and not expensive artcrafts.
