mailing letters from Guatemala City

by stevex123

I may be in Guatemala City on business. Assuming, I'm not in my hotel,
are there any letterboxes in Guatemala City, where you can drop off correspondence? Also is there a Mail Boxes, Etc. in Guate City? I think there is one near Avenia Las Americas, but I'm not sure.
Thanks,
Steve

There are likely to be some kiosks here and there where you can even buy stamps in the Zona Viva. I found one 2-3 blocks from Xamanek Student Inn in a level just below the nearby Burger King. Ask at your hotel.

Travel Tips for Guatemala City

Dinero

by AnnaLupilla

If you want to cash traveller´s cheques, simply go to Banco Agromercantil.
What I experienced so far, it is just theoretically possible to get money via ATM though maestro, as there ARE ATMs, but practically they seem to be very hard to find, so take traveller´s cheques with you.

Catedral Metropolitana

by Pieter11

Also on the Parque Central, but at its eastside, you will find another impressive building: the Catedral Metropolitana. This neoclassical building was created between 1782 and 1815, and is very special simply because it still exists. While almost all building in Guatemala City were destroyed during the 1917 earthquake, this cathedral was one of the few buildings that survived. And before this one, it survided two another earthquakes too.

The Cathedral is the most important religious building in the city and its position at the huge Parque Central shows this importance clearly. Again, I only visited the square at night, so I couldn't have a look inside. It is said that inside you can see some of the artworks that originally belonged to the cathedral of the former capital Antigua: a cathedral that is now destroyed: of course, by another earthquake.

Central Market. Lower Level (Farmer´s Market).

by euzkadi

The lower level is a place to see Guatemala´s fruits and vegetables, and a perfect place to understand the way of life of hundreds of vendors which left their homes in the highlands looking for a better life in the big city.

"Easter"

This was absolutely incredible!! All these men along the streets of Guatemala, "drawing" with flower seeds!!!!
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this was done during the Week of the Saints. (Easter Week)
