Your home away from home

We had a wonderful stay at La Capilla. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We felt at home. There's a small chapel inside - which I call their versatile room. They converted it into a massage parlor when we were there. They put the massage table on the altar. It was weird laying down on the table looking at a HUGE crucifix, surrounded by candles, lightning and thunder. I felt like I was being sacrificed! The massage was not bad.

Unique Quality: La Capilla is not a hotel. It's more like an old Spanish Villa with an open courtyard in the middle. The main door is always locked so it's safe. We rented the La Capilla Suite which was nice and big but it's next to the street (cobblestone street) which can get really loud even in the middle night when a car or a tuk tuk pass by. They have a small pool and sauna which we never used because it rained pretty much the whole time we were there. It's walking distance to EVERYTHING! Right next to it is a great restaurant called Panza Verde. Just beware of the mosquitoes! They are huge. The staff gave us a mosquito repellent coil that we lighted before we go to bed.

La Capilla - Antigua Hospitality

5 Star Service - 3 Star Pricing - Wow, this little bed and breakfast in Antigua was just what I was looking for a quick weekend get away. Shuttle dropped my off, I was greeted at the door and quickly shown to my room after arriving from a late flight, the next morning, was greeted with fresh fruits for breakfast, and the staff provided me with a local cell phone, great advice on local dining, and time and space to relax. Anything I needed was able to be arranged including a great message from a local spa. Overall this was a very refreshing and relaxing stay.

Unique Quality: Pool, roof top volancoe views, sauna, bar, wifi.

Casa La Capilla

5 rooms, two of which share bathroom. They are all really nice rooms, all facing the courtyard. They have a tiny pool which is nice, as well as a sauna that takes 45 minutes to get going. Every morning, abuelita and her grandchild serve a continental style breakfast, fresh juice, cafe, yogurt and fruit with bread and cookies and of course jam and butter. $82 US dollars with taxes etc.. The owner may be looking to sell, so check to see if Alexandra or Bette is still there. They were incredibly gracious. The hotel is in a quiet area, next to Meson Panza Verde, at 5 Avenida Sur #21, Antigua Guatemala, + 502 7832 0182, + 1 203 987 5501

Unique Quality: Pool, Sauna, little church to relax inside. Great 2nd floor view to eat breakfast and look at Volcano Agua.

Beautiful house - rare find for family or group

There are hundreds of places to stay in Antigua Guatemala. Some are cheap and cheerful, some elegant and stylish. Almost all of them are geared to couples and singles and many are really for backpackers.
Our large family (7 of us) almost always have trouble finding a place to stay so we were over the moon when a fellow traveller recommended we try Casa La Capilla. This beautiful house is located in famous 5th Avenue (the one with the arch) about 4 blocks from the Central Park. It has a lovely pool area together with a small bar and barbecue area which guests are free to use. We had such fun going to the market and coming 'home' to cook for ourselves.
The staff seems to speak every language on the planet and Bette was so helpful arranging tours, shuttles, babysitters, massages. They even gave us our own mobile phones for our 10 day stay.
This is a romantic spot and would surely suit couples or people looking for a quiet place to write or paint. I just wanted to write something that emphasised how great an experience this was for our family. We could not have hoped for better!

Unique Quality: Lovely pool and BBQ area. Roof terrace has perfect view of the volcano. Personal service in most European languages. Wireless internet and never-ending hot water ( might sound strange to include the hot water but Antigua is famous for its sudden death electrical shower heads!).
