An incredible atmosphere transports you to the colonial era, we provide everything that needs attention is the best and the facilities are beautiful and very comfortable hotel page is http://www.posadadelangel.com
Unique Quality: Museum, swimming pool, ruins, colonial architecture, beautiful views and amenities
Rooms are not worth the money. Service is impersonal. Great place to have a wedding, which appears to be where their focus is, not on customer service.
Unique Quality: Beautiful setting built around the ruins of a domincan monastary. Excellent museums. Great place to visit but better service elsewhere.
The hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are decorated and cleaned well and the restaurant is fantastic.
But the hotel treats its employees horribly. I stayed at this hotel with my family in January and we overheard the manager arguing with an employee who we had seen working around the hotel a few times. The employee seemed to be in a lot of distress so my dad asked him what was the matter.
He stated that he had been working at the hotel for 6 months, but had not been paid for the last three weeks. When he had asked for his check for the fourth time they fired him and another employee who also complained. They said that they could find someone else who wouldn't complain as much. He said that he needed his check so he could pay his rent and for his mom's medicine. How horrible is that?!
I knew that there was a lot of corruption in Guatemala but I hasn't seen it in person. I think that any hotel that treats its employees like that does not derserve to be in business.
Personally I will never return to that hotel and I urge other Trip Advisor members to do the same.
Directions: At the entrance of Antigua.
Elegant, Spanish colonial style ---hints of Moorish influence. Mmmmm. Nice.
It is opulant. It is just ...relaxation.
We were there for a buffet lunch ---and that was delicious. After the food we wandered and looked around. The bedrooms were sultry and the courtyards full of flowers, macaws and inspiritation.
We visited another hotel that day ---but this one was outstanding.
If ever we return then we will stay here!
Unique Quality: Old world and new world. In the middle of a city and yet far beyond!
The Casa Santo Domingo is built upon the ruins of Santo Domingo, a Dominican monastery. The monastery was abandoned after a 1773 earthquake. You can visit the ruins and several museums on the site. It has 125 rooms available for accommodations.
This is a five start hotel that is amazing. Within the hotel are church ruins that are slowly being restored. The room was beautiful with a fireplace, sunken tub, back patio, and totally breath taking views of the city at night. My friend and I stayed here on her last night in Antigua as a treat to ourselves because we were tired of cold showers, small pillows, and wanted a mini vacation. We paid about $80 for one night, what a good deal. This is also a hot spot for weddings and events. There is a nice pool too. AND there's an ATM too!
Unique Quality: Church ruins, museum, beautiful rooms, ATM.
Directions: Expensive area of town.
The beautiful rooms at the Hotel Casa Santo Domingo have stucco, beams, tiles, fireplaces, terraces and tons of charm. We were here on two occasions, for a few days each time. We loved this hotel. The charm, history, location and ambiance made for a lovely respite during a very diverse trip. Try it. You won't be disappointed.
Unique Quality: This hotel was built amid the ruins of a convent. It's like staying in a museum. Although the ancient is everywhere, the hotel also has every modern convenience.

I had a pleasant stay. I don't believe any rooms have a terrible view. Most overlook one of the many fountains and the exotic birds on display.
Unique Quality: The view of the ruins is magnificent.
Pleasant stay. The staff caters to your every whim. The attention to detail is fantastic. At night the hotel is illuminated using candles.
Unique Quality: Candles illuminate the hotel at night.
The Casa Santo Domingo offers live marimba music. The patio is spacious for dancing.
Unique Quality: Great views and atmosphere add to the charm.
The hotel Casa Santo Domingo is an old ruin which has been converted into a modern hotel. It is a five star hotel including all the modern amenities. The food is delectable, the swimming pool offers wonderful views. The rooms are cozy.
Unique Quality: It is unique in that the ruins were converted into a modern hotel.

I didn't stay here, but did walk around the grounds and was so struck by the beauty and peace that I thought I'd write about it here.
Unique Quality: The courtyard gardens and everything else about the hotel that I saw were gorgeous. I understand that the hotel is expensive by Guatemalen standards, but it seems to be worth a splurge if you have the resources. Otherwise just take a walk through and soak up the vibes. Plus it's right in the thick of the city.
A former Monastery this luxurious hotel is absolutely wonderful! There are statues and sculptures in all hallways, stairways and corners. I explored the whole hotel and should confess that twice got scared by the life size wooden saints. However, the decoration and landscape design is beautiful.
Unique Quality: The swimming pool is big enough to lap swim. There is an archaeological site inside the premises. The gardens are well kept and the restaurants have a nice breakfast buffet with ladies cooking tortillas and sopes.
Directions: Driving from the airport (or Guatemala City) the hotel is just as you enter Antigua. Turn right in the first street crossing a little bridge , can'tt miss it.
Neither natural disasters nor the passing of century have been able to destroy its beauty. Complete with several Jacuzzis for relaxing... and a very exotic and tonifying pool.... all within rocks and ruins!!! I love the guacamaya birds (macaws) all over the lawn!!!! It's a great place to stay! Highly recommended!!!!! Five star and very cozy!

Casa Santo Domingo is absolutely gorgeous...
a Monastery that they've turned into a Hotel (well, part of it) And I'm telling you, being able to listen to the silence and have a chat with history is something one can do in each corner of this Monastery, that belongs to an era in which fountains and copulas had a great relevance it's quite an experience!!!!
The rooms are luxurious, complete with a fireplace. The pool and hot tub are great for relaxing. At night the walkways are aglow with hundreds of votive candles, which produces a very romantic atmosphere. The brunch is delicious, and there are all the possible breakfast foods you could hope for.
The rates for this hotel are not cheap, but if you can afford Casa Santo Domingo, it is a great experience.

Is it possible to take a tour of Casa Santo Domingo if you aren't a guest there? How would one go about doing this?
Thanks for your help. Did you use a tour operator of any kind while in Antigua or did you just wander around? What would you recommend?
Thanks so much for your help! Maybe we'll just wander around on our own. :)
