Worth the cost

An very ordinary doorway leads into this really beautiful hotel. The rooms are attractive and spacious, and the grounds are magnificent. Room numbers in the 200s have glass doors that open onto a landscaped patio or an upstairs balcony. It was very pleasant to relax on our patio while looking at the flowers and watching the resident Scarlet Macaws.

The hotel has a large pool, and a very nice children's play area. The Plaza, Arco, and artisan markets are all in walking distance.

Unique Quality: Hand woven textiles are everywhere. Many of the rooms have the name of a Mayan village under the number, and a framed weaving from that village is in the room.

Top End Accomodation in Antigua

Our friend's father got a group rate as a large portion of his family were going to be in town for his and his wife's 50th wedding anniversary. The hotel consists of the main hotel in the block of 8a Calle Poniente between 4a and 5a Avenida Sur. There is also an annex which is in the adjacent block to the east. It used to be another hotel but was purchased by the Hotel Antigua and totally remodeled. It was fairly new when we stayed there in June 2007. The main pool is in the main hotel but the annex has a small pool which is about twice as wide as a lap pool but has the same rectangular dimension.

The restaurant is also in the main hotel and features an open-air but covered dining area with a nice view of Volcan Agua (when the clouds are cooperating) beyond the pool area. Breakfast is included with your room rate and consists of a full continental and hot breakfast with omelettes made to order, plantanos, frijoles, and a rotating choice of Guatemalan entrees including empanadas and tamales. Baked goods, fresh juices, fruit, cereal, etc. are all a part of the impressive breakfast offerings. We loved going to breakfast and hanging out, talking with everyone in our friends' extended families. We'd spend the better part of 2 hours there each morning.

Rooms are more than spacious and are decorated with traditional blouses from across the Highlands area of the country. Hardwood floors, fire place, flat-screen TV, and a huge bathroom are part of the newly-renovated rooms in the annex. Concierge service is excellent and there is a business center with internet access (small charge) across the street from the main hotel. There is also a tour operator in the lobby of the main hotel where you can book various tours of the city and excursions to nearby destinations. Very convenient.

Unique Quality: In a quiet location, 3 blocks south of the Parque Central; nice large beds; great breakfast included in room rate

Great Place to stay in Antigua

It is a perfect place for a short stay or longer stay, very conveniently located in beautiful Antigua. The bus terminal, the market and all sights of the city are within walking distance.
It is excellent value (rooms around US$ 5.00), nicely furnished, with access to kitchen and fridge.
It is very well run by a very friendly and helpful owner Luis Morales, who is also a great source of information for acivities in and around Antigua.

Unique Quality: Excellent value for money, great peoples, comfortable.. what else you need?

Tranquile hotspot

Hotel primavera was quiet, but very close to the bus station and only 5 minutes from town center. Clean and friendly. very good deal for travellers on a tight budget that want a safe, clean and comfortable place in Antigua.

Unique Quality: Sit a night on the roof, watch stars and the glowing vulcano.
