La Casa del Mundo Hotel

La Casa Del Mundo is a beautiful family run Inn perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Atitlan just outside of the tiny village of El Jaibalito.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The Man was from Alaska and his wife a native Guatemalan. The dining was community style giving the guests the oppurtunity to mingle. This was the only option.

Children are welcome as the couple have two boys themselves. They offer swimming, day hikes, mountain bike tours, kayaking and tons of relaxing on the stone porch.

Rooms with both private and comunal baths are available.

Directions: Take a bus, shuttle or taxi to Pana. From the dock ask to be dropped off at La Casa Del Mundo or the dock at El Jaibalito village.

The setting is beautiful but any place on Lake Atitlan has that. Friends stayed here and recommended it. When we stayed the male owner was not helpful and was actually quite rude. An even bigger issue is that if you go in the rainy season and get socked in by rain, you are pretty much trapped in an isolated location with nothing to do. At least if you stay in Panajachel you can get out to do things besides staying in your hotel. The site is a long, long way from anything else, remote and one must take a boat to go anywhere or do anything. With the owner not being the pleasantest person, it can make for a long day in a less than pleasant environment. And in rain or cloud you don't get the effect of the nice views anyway.

Unique Quality: Good views like most lake places.
