Hotel Villa Del Lago: Lakeside Basics
After changing plans during my trip, I went from staying near Tikal down to Flores, and selected Hotel Villa del Lago, because my guide book had a decent write-up about it. The hotel is three or so storeys tall and situated on the east side of the island overlooking the lake. It was a basic place with private baths, tv, fan, bottled water, and other basic amenities. It was not rundown and was clean with plenty of hot water, and was on par with most places in the area. It fit my need for a place to crash for the night. Other people seemed to like it, as there were a couple large groups staying the same night.
It has a nice patios overlooking the lake.
Cost: 210Q ($30US) for room with two double beds, fan, and private bath.

Hotel Santa Rita: Affordable Lodging
As we stayed in Santa Elena on the mainland we did not stay at the Hotel Santa Rita but we had to take a photo of Rita in front of her namesake lodging establishment. Our Lonely Planet guidebook describes the Santa Rita as having 11 room on three floors that are clean with fan and hot-water bathroom.

Hotel Santana: great place to stay and take in the views
It was a really nice place to stay. The hotel is located on the west side of Flores, right on Lago de Peten Itza. Our room was on the second floor with the best balcony ever. Extra large private balcony with great chairs and table. And the view was unbelievable. Make sure you are there for the sunset – it was one of the best I’ve seen. The room was of a medium size and clean. A/C was there, but with the great breeze from the lake, it wasn't really needed ( we were there in January). There was a TV, but we spent most the time outside on the balcony.
Unique Quality: There was a very nice, but small pool in the inner courtyard, but swimming in the lake was a better choice. Views of Lago de Peten Itza were the best. There were lots of restaurants and shoping right outside the hotel. We were able to book our transportation to Tikal right at the hotel, as well as a bus to Mexico (Chetumal) via Belize City. And that was another adverture!

Hotel Casazul in Flores: Very Blue, but Very Nice
I had noticed the Casazul through a web site. I called the day before I arrived, from El Remate. There was no need, as the hotel was far from full.
The Casazul is on the edge of the island, with nice views of the lake. The 9 rooms are bright and decorated in blue. There is a pleasant balcony on the lake.

LA CANOA: WAS OK BUT WASN'T THAT GREAT
AFTER COMING BACK FROM BELIZE WE DECIDED TO GOTO A DIFFERENT HOTEL IN FLORES AS WE DIDN'T LIKE OUR BEDS IN THE LA JUNGLA HOTEL. HEY PRESTRO! THE BEDS WERE SOFTER BUT SOMEHOW, OUR ROOM WAS A BIT DIRTY PLUS THE TOILET WAS GOING ALL THE TIME LIKE AS IF IT WAS ON A PERMANENT SLIGHT FLUSH.

LA JUNGLA: WAS CLEAN BUT THE BEDS WERE UNCOMFY
WELL THE ROOM WAS NICE, IT HAD A TV, FAN, BEDSIDE TABLE, CHAIRS, AND PRIVATE BATHROOM WITH SHOWER...SO THE ROOM WAS CLEAN I CAN GIVE IT THAT, BUT THE BEDS SOMEHOW WASN'T THAT COMFORTABLE AS THEY WERE A BIT HARD.
BY THE WAY, THIS PLACE DOESN'T ACCEPT CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS SO YOU HAVE TO PAY BY CASH.

Hotel Mirador del Lago: Perfect location, great service
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was our favourite hotel. Our room was cleaned daily, with clean towels, the service was very friendly. Our room had a bathroom in it and a nice big window. The balcony was just outside our door, and the positioning of the hotel allowed for a constant breeze. Also, there were patio chairs on the rooftop for suntanning or star-gazing. We definitely recommend it.

Villa del Lago: One of several good Flores Hotels
We stayed upstairs and had a view of the lake from our balcony. The room was clean and had a private bath, television, and a/c. The restaurant downstairs has view of the lake and serves an excellent full breakfast. This hotel is on the quiet side of the island, but is also quite close to the causeway over to Santa Elena. The vans for Tikal leave just down the street. For three of us, the cost was $25- per night, an excellent price given we stayed over during the x-mas holiday.
Unique Quality: We saw number of hotels on the other side of the island, and can't really see too many differences. Only a few hotels have swimming pools, as the cramped quarters of Flores doesn't really allow for this luxury. But, this was one that did, and it was an indoor pool. We didn't take the time for a swim though. Given our experience, I wouldn't bother trying to get on-line reservations. I had tried this, but found the prices surprisingly high, so we took our chances browsing even after 8pm on Christmas Eve. As it turns out, my gamble paid off, and we got a great room for a very low price. Check out the website, and do your own calculations. Prices probably have increased a bit, but I still believe that bargaining at the desk is easier than on-line. Either way, the prices are really good.
