Employees were pleasant and the room was clean. The shower did not stay warm though and I had to stay by the switch while my girlfirend was taking her shower. When she screamed, it meant that the water had turned cold and I had to re-turn on the switch ... annoying. We did not agree on price in advance (our mistake, I know). When the bill came, at $20,it was at the top of the rack rate. I don't know about you but I hate when I am taken advantage of like this so we cancelled the next two days of stay. I think that a fair price would have been around $12. Theme: InnPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Calle Reforma, Casa No. 3. El Retiro is a hotel / hostel (you can share bunk beds or get you own room) in Lanquin, Guatemala. The guests are young backpackers and once you are there you mingle often with them all. There is a restaurant on site and dinners, if you choose to join, are communal. The atmosphere is very relaxed and most of the time at the hotel you are hanging out in a hammock over looking the river or having a beer with your new friends. A river runs through the property where you can swim, or rent innertubes and float down. The staff also arranges trips to nearby caves and to Semuc Chempey, a must see in Guatemala!!
Great views of Guatemala's mountains. Each room is on stilts on a hill with an amazing view. Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Lanquin, Guatemala

Accomodations in Guatemala range, like in any other country of the world, from luxury to budget to hotels to ultrabudget guesthouses called hospedajes, casa de huéspedes or pensiones. Budget category covers places where you can get a room for two for about $ 25 or less. They should be clean, sizable and airy, with a bathroom, TV, and, in hot parts Doubles cheaper than $ 10 are generally small, dark and not particularly of the country, a fan, clean. Establishments with doubles between $ 25 and $ 70 cover the category of mid-range. These rooms should always be comfortable: private hot-water bathroom, TV, decent beds, fan and/or air-con are standard. Attention: My international experience told me that the smaller the establishment, the better the attention to the guests is likely to be. Anything more expensive than $ 70 is top end, like the big international hotels in Guatemala City. To be true, even if I had the money I would always prefer a tiny little hotel to one of these, because imagine waking up in the morning you have to ask yourself if you’re in Singapore, New York or Berlin as rooms of the same chain look all the same. In places tourists go to during Semana Santa (Easter Holiday) and Christmas, rates often go up as Semana Santa is the major holiday week throughout Latin America. Then prices can raise up by anything from 30% to 100%! At these times advance reservations could be a good deal.
Unfortunately, there are no hostels of the International Youth Hostel Association settled in Guatemala, so it's not worth to bring your youth hostel card with you. Theme: Hotel

Cheap, clean, but very basic. This is how you could describe this B&B hospedaje. It is quietly located out of the center of Panajachel. The rooms themselves are nothing more than a room with a bed and dirty walls. Giant ants are running in and out (in our case anyway) but you can stop them by putting some (clean) toilet paper under the door. Price is 60 Quetzales. The owner is friendly and spanish speaking. My girl friend and I spent five nights in a cabin with a jaccuzzi with a panoramic view of lake atitlan. If you can believe it $40 a night. We had the most fantastic breakfast delivered to our cabin each morning $4 each.During the day we rode horses, kayaked, paraglided, dove off the rocks and tooksome cultural excursiones. We also climbed san pedro volcano;that hot tub was so nice afer that hike up the volcano. Even though we were quite active we departed extraordinarily relaxed.A great place for virtually everybody.
The cabins are built of wood in a canadian style that has no equal in central america regardless of price.
