Jacmel, Haiti Hotel: Hotel Florita

by jessrabbit

Where are you staying in Jacmel? If you happen to be staying at the Hotel Florita I believe that they offer a mini-van rental and hotel pick up at a price. [http://www.hotelflorita.com] This could work for your group? Other than that Perhaps going to the Caribe Tours website could be of some assistance. Happy Travels.

Central Jacmel location on Rue de Commerce, unlike other "hotels" in the area this one is in walking distance to restaurants and shopping so you don't have to rent a vehicle or hitch long ways to go out to eat. They provide transportation to local beaches, the one in Jacmel city is not good for swimming, sunbathing, etc. The building has a bar, restaurant and several types of room options. Wifi in the building, clean with friendly staff.

AYITI GUESTHOUSE: A Great Place to Stay in Haiti

by travel4good

There were so many hotels profiteering off the destruction in Port-Au-Prince. One place was charging up to 250 USD a night for a room with bucket showers. It was nice to find a place that just cared about welcoming people. The AYITI GUESTHOUSE did just that. Very affordable, clean rooms , and very friendly staff. The Guesthouse owners are also working with youth affected by the earthquake, so it was nice to know that our stay had an impact on young lives.

The AYITI Guesthouse also prides itself in offering guests a true taste of Haitian culture, offering guest delicacies rarely found on average hotel menus. They also help with Creole classes and will assist in orienting you in Haiti. We highly recommend this guesthouse in Haiti. They can be contacted at ayitiguesthouse@gmail.com

Great rooftop terrace with fantastic views of the Port-Au-Prince Mountains
Home cooked meals in family style setting
Ideal way to get a real sense of what Haitian culture is truly like

Guys Guest House in Jacmel: A pleasant surprise in Jacmel

by melosh

Very clean. Good price for basic room. Friendly staff. Good breakfast included.

The old man at the check-in guest was not very personable, but the three staff ladies were pleasant and maintained high standards of cleanliness.

A modest place that maintains a high level of maintenance and a reasonable price.

Over priced lodging versus day hotels.: Any place Haiti

by melosh

I usually am looking for simple clean places with reasonable locations and a price to match. I find it hard to recommend any of the places I stayed in Haiti except for a place in Jacmel (see tip) because the better places seemed overpriced for what they offered and the cheaper places were over-priced for inadequate facilities in poor locations. In Port au Prince many of the places that call themselves hotels are really in the "entertainment" business and apparently renting a room for 24 hours is not a good business unless one charges about $20. Trust me, this is not a good price for what is offered.

You will pay dearly for cleanliness and maintenance, because the only people who can afford to stay in these places are foreign aid workers, missionaries and businessmen (Oh yes, and tourists if there are any.). Apparently there are plenty of people willing to pay US/European type prices for less that US/European quality. But to be fair, What choice do they have?

The Montana: 4 star hotel for less!

by lisa42088

I ate dinner at The Montana and got a tour of the place. It was so big and beautiful and kept up so nicely. The staff was really friendly, most of them spoke English. The restaurant had amazing food too. You would not belive something so extravagant was hiding in Haiti! They even have an awsome website which has some beautiful pictures of the place.

Gorgeous pool and many terraces, beautiful view of the city, huge lobby, tennis court, computers, internet access... all of which are unique compared to the average Haiti hotel!

Hotel Montana: Drop Dead View above Port-au-Prince

by Beausoleil

Update: Jan. 13, 2010 . . . Preliminary unconfirmed reports following the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake suggest the Hotel Montana has collapsed. Many UN administration stayed here and there has been no contact. If you want to send aid to Haiti, please send it through an agency that is in place and trusted, for example, Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, a church mission organization. I know the Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Mennonite and Baptist churches all maintain excellent mission organizations in Haiti. They would put aid money and supplies to good use. I'll repost as I get more news.

Update: Jan. 15, 2010
Hotel Montana is destroyed. They have been pulling a few survivors from the wreckage. Check the NY Times online blog for names.

This beautiful modern hotel is situated on a hill overlooking Port-au-Prince and the bay. You can see forever from the panoramic restaurant by the pool.

Everything is marble and Haitian mahogany inside and the staff is incredibly considerate and welcoming.

The rooms are wonderful, but the view is beyond incredible. Enjoy the pool, sightsee in the area and then eat in the panoramic restaurant where the food is excellent and the view almost (!) makes you forget about eating.

Montana: Contrast

A first class Hotel run by the same family for 35 years ... It is elegant and well appointed - particularly when you consider it is located in the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

The view of the city and the coastline from this spot is amazing ... G

reat Bar, Pool, Good Restaurant with a fantastic breakfast ...
