View from the hammock by retiredjack Booking a place on the internet in a country you have never visited can be a bit scary. But Connie at Midwest Sun & Fun Travel made the process easy and most satisfying. With great communication skills and very good advice and tips on Roatan she made this trip a safe and most enjoyable experience.
The Coconut Tree Cabins on West Bay beach was spacious, clean and had air-conditioning, a fridge and a microwave at a very reasonable cost. The shaded porch has very comfortable hammock with a greate view of the Caribbean. courtesy of hotel website by starship We did not stay at Mayan Princess Beach Resort & Spa because we arrived on Roatan by cruise ship. But when I was doing research on Roatan I came across the listing for this hotel. I was interested because at first I thought it was one of the Fairmont Princess Hotels which I really like. Apparently, it is not connected with that group though. However, it seems to offer a good location and many amenities. It is located on West Bay Beach only 20 minutes from the Roatan airport. There are one and two-bedroom air-conditioned "villas" with fully equipped kitchens, a very large swimming pool, room service, a restaurant and bar, wireless internet for a charge, satellite cable TV, live entertainment on the weekends, a tour desk, and more! Don't forget they are on the beach!! To book activities & tours on the island, stop by their tour desk. The "Mayan Princess Beach Bar & Grill" offers breakfast, lunch & dinner. A new restaurant, ""Caliente" sounds like it will be quite a jewel when completed. Located on the beachfront, Caliente will be a gourmet, beachfront restaurant featuring a decor emphasizing mosaics inside and out. Room rates will vary depending on the season, days of the week and whether your suite/villa is facing the pool or the beach. A one-bedroom, beach front room booked for Sunday through Thursday (January 1st thru Sept. 30th) will cost you $190 per night including breakfast. The same room on a weekends will run $219. On top of that price you must add 16% tax. The hotel offers special 7-night packages with special features such as numerous diving trips, all meals, taxes and airport transfers which cost roughly $1,400 per person + tax. This seems very expensive to me but diving trips by themselves can cost over $100 per person each time, so maybe it's a great bargain!!
I wouldn't say the rooms look lavishly furnished, but they are still a cut above the norm. The beach would be a huge draw as would the pool and surrounding grounds. Another plus would be the included breakfast and airport transfers. Having a tour desk on the premises would be handy if you don't rent a car. Sitting by the sea by TinKan Foster's West Bay beach hotel, cabanas and suites are located on Roatan's most beautiful beach, quiet, secluded, and laced by Roatan's magnificent coral reefs. Unlike many hotels or lodging in West End, all rooms and cabanas at Foster's West Bay resort are beachfront and have ocean views. All are steps away from the powdery white sand beach. Foster's West Bay beach location also has a tree house cabana built high in the branches of a mango tree, complete with electricity and private toilet. Foster's West Bay Restaurant & Bar is right on the premises and offers a full menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages and a fully stocked bar. If you are looking for beauty, relaxation, quiet seclusion, or that perfect romantic, tropical getaway, Foster's West Bay Beach resort location is for you! The magnificent coral reef is within sight and an easy swim for snorkelers. Diving, including diving certification, fishing, island and boat tours are all available and can be arranged on your arrival. Water taxi service is also available for trips into West End and other destinations.
Foster's West End cabanas are located in a prime location in the town of West End and are directly across from Foster's Bar and Restaurant, which is built over the water and provides the perfect setting for the world's most spectacular sunsets. The cabins are a variety of individual cabanas close to shopping, dive shops, restaurants and happening bars. All cabanas have porches and private sundecks. Water taxi service is also available right out front. There are many other places in town to eat and drink. West End is a small and friendly, bustling town with plenty of nightlife. Anthony's Key private island by Dionosaur I have been to Roatan 3 times and I have stayed at AKR all 3 times, so I cannot compare it to other places on the island. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed all my trips and absolutely love staying there. The people are friendly and the food is great. If you are a diver, this is the place for you. If you are used to staying in huge 5 star hotels with all the amenities, then this is NOT the place for you. In fact, Roatan probably isn't for you either, as there are no "chain" hotels on the island. What you do get is a private bungalow on a beautiful tiny little island, great food and excellent diving facilities. All bungalows have attached patios with hammocks and offer spectacular views.
The whole resort is unique. The lobby, restaurant, bar and diving facilities are all located on the main island and there is someone on hand to ferry you back and forth to your room at all times. The boat trip takes approximately 1 minute. They offer a variety of activities: diving, snorkeling, horseback riding and dolphin encounters.

This place is amazing. It has the best decor and atmosphere of any place I've been to on Roatan. The amenities are excellent, diving included and especially. They have dolphins with whom you can snorkel or dive, and a museum devoted to underwater stuff. (Really general, I know.) They also have one of the few hyperbaric chambers on the island.
One of the few hotels located on the north side of the island. Great, protected bay with island cabanas. More info to come! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Near the west end

AKR by TinKan There are 4 types of rooms (villas) that you can get at AKR and each has it’s own uniqueness to it. The room types are broken down as follows: The Hilltop rooms are for those that want to be on the main island and close to the restaurant and bar. The following rooms are located on the key island and require that you take a water taxi to and from them: The Standard Key rooms are nice but do not have air-conditioning. The Superior Key rooms are very nice and have proper windows and air-conditioning. The Standard Jr Key Suite has a bedroom and sitting room as well as your very own sun deck over the water. The Deluxe Jr Key Suite has the same as the standard one does but it has windows and air-conditioning.
There is one Deluxe Suite on the key that has it all and then some and the inside of it looks like a regular house.
