Posada Arco Iris: Very Good Mid-Range Choice

Be forewarned: Posada Arco Iris books up fast, so don't expect to walk in and get a room.

Posada Arco Iris is located on the main drag in West End, just behind the Argentinean Grill (which their friendly staff also run). The hotel is a serious of buildings in luscious palm-tree filled grounds. All rooms have a queen and twin bed and mini-frige, an extra $5 or so will get you a full kitchenette. The rooms are spacious, clean and have screens on the window, however the hotel is beginning to show a bit of wear and tear. Although the hotel is in the heart of the action, it's very quiet with the exception of the neighbouring roosters having a good crow every morning. The staff at the front desk are helpful and have one computer for guests to check their email on, as well as a book exchange. Posada Arco Iris is one of the only hotels in the area to offer free sun chairs and kayaks on the beach, just for guests. If I were to say one negative thing about the hotel, it would be that the damp palms attract quite a few mosquitos. You might want to consider bringing a plug-in mosquito coil to make sure you don't get bitten during the night. The hotel keeps two caged monkeys on the premises: parents, your kids will love them; animal-rights activists, consider staying elsewhere.

Posada Las Orquideas: Good Mid-Range Option

I stayed in Posada Las Orquideas for about four nights in January 2008. The hotel is very new and the facilities are excellent: each room has two comfortable beds, traditional bedspreads, a new, clean bathroom (with hot water) and a mini-fridge. I believe some rooms also have kitchenettes. The hotel isn't right on the beach, but there is a pier behind the hotel with a hammock and some beach chairs, and I think you could go swimming off the pier if you wanted. Each room also has a sea-view patio with a hammock for relaxing. In the office there is a book exchange, so bring a book for swapping when you arrive!

The ONLY downside to this hotel is its location. To get into town from Las Orquideas, you have to walk down an unlit dirt road that is literally crawling with large roaches and huge centipedes. It's fine during the day, but at night I personally found it terrifying (because I have a phobia of bugs). If you don't mind bugs you'll be fine, but if you're a bit squeamish then consider staying at Las Orquideas' sister property - Posada Arco Iris.

Bananarama: Roatan's relaxing beach bungalows!

An absolute blast! The beach was fantastic- white sand- never wore shoes (do bring DEET though). Diving was awesome! Other guests were very outgoing and a group of us teamed up and made a go of dives and dinner several times. Very laid back, casual and relaxing atmosphere.
Dive shop was great. Marco was fantasic Dive Master! very professional and good descents and deco stops. great site picks too.

beautiful white sand beach- a rariety in Roatan. Owner Louis was always on top of things making sure every one was taken care of. If you asked for something to be fixed or needed something, it happened right away, just like he said it would.

Mayan Princess: www.mayanprincess.com

What a great place this is. It's a little pricey, but I got a discount for offseason. The service is excellent. The rooms are spacious, with full kitchen. The pool in the center of the complex is really nice. The location is excellent, right on West Bay beach overlooking the wonderful blue waters of the carribbean.

The Mayan Princess Beach Resort & Spa: Not Inexpensive but Maybe One of the Nicest

We did not stay at Mayan Princess Beach Resort & Spa because we arrived on Roatan by cruise ship. But when I was doing research on Roatan I came across the listing for this hotel. I was interested because at first I thought it was one of the Fairmont Princess Hotels which I really like. Apparently, it is not connected with that group though.

However, it seems to offer a good location and many amenities. It is located on West Bay Beach only 20 minutes from the Roatan airport. There are one and two-bedroom air-conditioned "villas" with fully equipped kitchens, a very large swimming pool, room service, a restaurant and bar, wireless internet for a charge, satellite cable TV, live entertainment on the weekends, a tour desk, and more! Don't forget they are on the beach!! To book activities & tours on the island, stop by their tour desk.

The "Mayan Princess Beach Bar & Grill" offers breakfast, lunch & dinner. A new restaurant, ""Caliente" sounds like it will be quite a jewel when completed. Located on the beachfront, Caliente will be a gourmet, beachfront restaurant featuring a decor emphasizing mosaics inside and out.

Room rates will vary depending on the season, days of the week and whether your suite/villa is facing the pool or the beach. A one-bedroom, beach front room booked for Sunday through Thursday (January 1st thru Sept. 30th) will cost you $190 per night including breakfast. The same room on a weekends will run $219. On top of that price you must add 16% tax.

The hotel offers special 7-night packages with special features such as numerous diving trips, all meals, taxes and airport transfers which cost roughly $1,400 per person + tax. This seems very expensive to me but diving trips by themselves can cost over $100 per person each time, so maybe it's a great bargain!!

I wouldn't say the rooms look lavishly furnished, but they are still a cut above the norm. The beach would be a huge draw as would the pool and surrounding grounds. Another plus would be the included breakfast and airport transfers. Having a tour desk on the premises would be handy if you don't rent a car.

Fantasy Island resort: Great diving resort

An average 3 star. Food was good. Pillows a little too small. IF you are into diving or just relaxing I would recommend this resort.

Dive shop and dive masters. Mark our DM was probably one of the best. He spotted a dozen sea horses.

Bravo Club Henry Morgan: a beautiful resort

We've been at the "Bravo Club Henry Morgan", an italian resort on the West Bay Beach. It's a very nice resort all made in wood, according to a local custom. It's divided in two parts: in the central structure there are the reception, the lobby bar with some sofa where you can be confortable chatting with your friends. Sofas are round a little tropical garden in the open air, creating a nice colonial athmosphere. Upstairs there is the restautant, with a beautiful view of the swimmingpool and the beach. The second part is made up of many little houses where are the rooms, all very confortable.

Go outdoor the central building, turn around the swimmingpool, surrounded by a tropical vegetation, and go to the beach...wow! Its view take your breath away!

Bay Islands Beach Resort: Best place to stay on the Island

It is like staying with family. Not exotic but relaxing, laid back and the best dive masters on the island. I have been going here for four years now.

Great location, great dive masters and the best owners.
