More about Island Pearl
Island Pearl and Roatan - a Great Combo
In a world of mega resorts and commercialized vacation destinations, Roatan and the Island Pearl are a welcome alternative. West Bay is by far the nicest beach on the island (yes, we visited the rest of the island) and Island Pearl is a laid back, friendly place to stay. The houses have character, plenty of room, beautiful porches and the feel of visiting an old friends cottage, right on the beach. We arrived, took our shoes off and never put them back on til we left. This place is CASUAL and RELAXING like we have never experienced before. Go now before this unique resort disappears.
If you are looking for formal dining, internet connections, shopping or night life beyond 9:00 PM - stick with Cancun.
One Word: Paradise
Isla Pearl is truly THE place to stay in the Bay Islands, Honduras. It offers beauty and warmth from all aspects: location, accomodations, and hosts. It is right on the beach (one of the most beautiful in the world) yet is very private; especially compared with the other, pretentious, nearby resorts. Ideal for honeymooners but also for families and even the young adventurer group (think kitchen for home-cooked meals!). The houses are beautifully maintained and were hand-crafted by the owners; they reflect the character of the islands in every way. The owners themselves, Pascal and Lainie, open not only their home but their hearts to make your stay a truly unique and memorable experience.
We recently returned from a one week stay at wonderful Island Pearl. We spent two weeks on other locations in Honduras and we can say that Island Pearl is situated on the most beach on the Island. How nice to be able to step out of your door onto a sandy beach with the sea right in front of you. This comfy house, decorated in a European whimsical style, was more than adequate. The staff did a great job in keeping the unit clean - what with all the sand. Lainie and Pascal were very gracious hosts. There are lots of shady palm trees and of course the sun. Great snorkelling was only a 2 minute walk down the beach. Lots of sea life and coral to be seen. Lots of restaurants to choose from as well.
If you are looking for quiet, clean, and a boutique type resort, this is the place for you.

Island Pearl is the best on Roatan
My fiance and I just returned from a week in Roatan. We nearly went to Belize but had heard wonderful things about Roatan (better beaches, fewer tourists, reef right off the white sand beaches) and it turned out to be true. It was amazing!
After much research on the net, we were very fortunate to find Island Pearl. The owners, Lainie and Pascal, are wonderful people who have built, owned and maintained easily the best property on the best beach in Roatan for the past 10 years. The accomodations are comfortable, well-decorated and well-maintained, just like the photos they show on their website. The property and villas were designed to preserve the natural surroundings. This means the kept as many original trees as possible (lovely afternoon shade) and have ample space between the individual villas. It's like getting a house with a yard. And lets not forget the huge porches with ceiling fans and hammocks... miss that!.
Many of the other places in West Bay were like typical small resort/hotels that packed people in or were simple rooms that lacked character. If we would have chosen any of them that we saw, it would have been a completely different vacation (ie not as good).
We felt lucky and very fortunate to have found that "perfect vacation" after spending so much time looking around on the net. It is always tough when you don't know for sure. This is why I felt compelled to write this review so someone else out there can find their way to the Island Pearl and have a great vacation like we did.
Island Pearl was fantastic
Our family of three just returned from eight nights at the Island Pearl. We had a wonderful time, the houses are charming and their location is perfect. You are on the most beautiful beach and the snorkeling is Great just a little walk down the beach. If you are planning a trip to Roatan, Island Pearl is a good choice for accomodations. It has a little kitchen so you don't have to eat out all the time. If you are researching places on the net, be careful, some of the Web Sites for places on West Bay are like works of Art compared to what you'll see when you get here. Island Pearl is what it says though.
We did the South Shore Canopy tour twice that was wicked fun and the staff was great!
Dove with Bananarama which is located right behind Island Pearl, they were great too.
We liked il Pomodoro for pizza and pasta, it was very clean and nice with great service and good food, they have a good salad.
We loved Roatan for the diving, snorkeling and the beach but there isn't alot of other things to do there so if you want to be pampered and entertained, better go somewhere else.
A Special Experience
We stayed at the Pearl from Apr. 22-29 and had an absolutely wonderful time. The Pearl is a 4 cabana property on the beach with 2 cabanas facing the water and the other 2 facing the common area. We found the cabanas to be quite acceptable, roomy enough for a family of 5, or 4 adults who get along with each other (there is 1 bathroom). From speaking to other guests, the cabanas are basically the same layout with the same interiors. In ours, there was a queen sized bed in the upstairs bedroom, and 2 twins in the downstairs. The sheets were clean and the rooms were decorated with paintings. There was a large round table in the kitchen with 4 chairs. There was a refrigerator, coffee maker and stove, but no microwave. Two wall air conditioners kept the cabana cool along with plenty of ceiling fans. The porch was spacious and had a table, bench and 2 chairs with cushions. The bathroom shower supplied plenty of hot water for scrubbing clean. I thought the cleaning girl did an excellent job straightening the place out for us so we gave her a nice tip for her efforts. There is also an internet plug available in the main house for those who bring a laptop. No television, but who needs television?
The grounds are very well maintained, but natural. It is all sand with a variety of skinny palm trees and other types of tropical plants which I am not familiar with providing plenty of shade during the hot days. In my opinion, it is the ideal landscaping for a tropical getaway.
Water taxies are easy to catch from the nearby pier so you can go into West End to buy groceries, eat at a restaurant, trinket shop, or whatever. Also, there are plenty of places to eat right near the Pearl and we did not get sick once.
Over all, the very laid back atmosphere was entirely refreshing. Lanie and Pascal are the perfect hosts and treated us like friends.
I would recommend bringing plenty of bug repellent and high spf sun block. A flashlight may be handy on the beach at night (it gets dark early), and some reading material will also serve you well.
Wedding in Paradise
We recently had our wedding at Island Pearl and must say that both the resort and the island was beyond what we had expected. The Island Pearl is a little oasis among all the bigger hotels on West Bay and when you're there you don't feel as though there is anything else around. All of our families and guests stayed at the Island Pearl and at times it really felt like we were on our own private paradise.
The beds and rooms were comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms are uniquely decorated with mosaic tiling.
Lainie and Pascal were accomodating, both with providing a venue for the wedding and also information regarding the island for all our guests. We always felt if there were any problems that they were available.
The setting was ideal for a wedding as we got married in the gardens (so we had a lot of privacy) but still had a lovely backdrop of the beach at sunset. The gardens also served as the outdoor venue of our wedding reception and dinner. It was truly magical.
One thing to note is if you're thinking about getting married here, is that you will have to either organise it yourself or hire a wedding planner. We went with the latter. Also, as the island is still developing, you will have to be open changes as necessary.
All of us who stayed here thoroughly enjoyed it and we would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a secluded, private villa to stay while in Roatan.
Miss it so much.
The location was wonderful, right on the beach. The sound of the surf at night with the moonlight coming through the windows was beautiful (we had a the unit at the front). The
facility was so beautifully done and inque. Be prepared for no microwave, TV, but it is too busy and there is so much do -- diving, jungle tours, dolphin tours, etc.--you probably won't notice. Life is simpler and wonderful.
the best place in Roatan
We spent half a week at Island Pearl and it was delightful. The natural setting is beautiful, just steps from the beach. The bungalows for rent are super confortable and decorated in outstanding taste, carved wood doors, nice paintings by local painters. The bathroom is so beautiful that you have to see it, mosaics in a vaguely marine pattern, rounded shower exposed to the warm breeze, a dream. The verandah that surrounds the house make you wish time did not run, looking at the sunset from there makes you wonder at the beauty of it all.
But that is just the start of it. Because to top all this beauty you have the warm and careful hospitality of Lainie and Pascal. They are gracious hosts and make you feel right at home in their place. Our vacation would not have been the same without them.
In a nutshell, if you want to have the best of Roatan beaches, a cozy and tasteful place to stay, and nice people to chat with that introduce you to local knowledge this is the place to stay. Don't miss it.
We stayed at the island Pearl at the end of April. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised that food and other activities were within walking distance. Island Pearl is located on a beach that was very calm and great for swimming and snorkeling. The house was lovely and clean. The housekeepeer did a great job of making sure we had everything daily. We were recommended to use the Los Rocas diving, tried it for a couple of days then switched to the Banarama right behind the Island Pearl and found it to be much more accomodating and the guys running it to be more friendly. You definetly jneed to bring Bug Spray to this vacation as the "no see ems "will eat you alive. I would say if I needed to rate the Island Pearl it would be an 8 If I needed to rate the service of the owners it would be a 4, if we needed to get in touch with a taxi or just needed direction or information it wasn't convienient or comfortable to stand at the bottom of their house and yell up to them through the window to get to talk to someone.
