Great views and personal service

We stayed at Jamaica Heights for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. The property's designed with good taste, and it was just overflowing with bougainvilleas when we visited. It also has a small pool where you get gorgeous views of Port Antonio. There are benches and tables with chairs all around the property so you can sit down pretty much anywhere and just relax. we got to see humming birds while we were taking one such break.
Our room was simply furnished but very spacious, and we had a nice view of the mountains from our generous deck. Although there is no a/c in the room, just a celing fan, it was breezy enough when we were there in March that we didn't really need the ceiling fan either.
The hotel has a restaurant where the friendly cook serves breakfast and dinner, from where you get yet again amazing views over Port Antonio. We sat with other guests at the big table for some of the meals and it was great fun having conversations and exchanging travel stories.
The owner is really helpful and he told us where we should go each morning and arranged the trips for us. We also enjoyed a lengthy conversation with him after dinner the last night we were there.
With that said, we do recognize that there are some minor inconveniences with the hotel. firstly, the hotel's on a hill, which means that you get a really nice view, but you have to call a cab up or hike down to get to places. Secondly, there's no refridgerator or coffee maker in the room, and since the restaurant closes after breakfast and dinner, you can't really have anything after that. Finally, there's nothing to do on the property at night, so if you want some kind of enterntainment, look elsewhere.
Overall, the hotel's a really nice place to stay for the traveler who's looking for an informal and relaxing stay. If you need lots of amenities and find personal interactions with the staff and other guests bothersome, it's probably not for you.

Unique Quality: The staff and the view!
