Accomadation, eating costs

by cliffy02

Hi

I am planning to spends a few days in Ocho Rios and I am am on a budget. I am looking to stay at Sandcastles as it seems reasonable priced, The Grand which is all inclusive is about £50 more. Is there enough locations to find places to eat and what sort of prices are they?

I am not a heavy drinker and except the added luxury wondering if the extra £50 would be worth it for me.

Thanks

Hello Cliff. It has been a while since I stayed at The Pineapple Hotel in Ochie. I checked with Frommers and they have it as an inexpensive stay. I had no problems there and there were places everywhere to eat, drink and enjoy. They list the place @ $ 60.00 / nite year round for a double. The prices are reasonable and based on American prices for food.I know I got the best piece of bread pudding I have ever had at a little bakery to the left of the veg market. enjoy Barry

Travel Tips for Ocho Rios

RELAX WHEN YOU GET THERE!

by JAMBOB

I am an uptight person that is always concerned about safety!

Don't stay at any other place than an inclusive hotel/resort of less than 3 stars. If you abide by that little rule, have a fun time and leave the stress at home!

The people there are the nicest people in the world! Its what you make of it from touchdown to takeoff! Just learn to say no thanks & don't feel bad or scared.

In the resorts you are perfectly safe! Off the resorts ,travel in a group and you are perfectly safe. Drink water, eat there food, and love there Jerk & fruits and you are perfectly safe. Bring suntan lotion and aloe vera as its easy to burn there for fair skinned people. Weather is shorts, shorts, shorts, or no shirt no shoes no problem. Bring comfortable walking sandels, and water sox as you will get charged for them if you do any adventuring. Bring one pair of kaky pants men and women something equivalent to that ladys. Bring underwater camera's, and bring and extra travel bag for stuff you buy when your there to take home, leave your cell phones home, internet is available at the resorts, use the front desk lady to help you out, or guy/ as they will tell you things about where to go, visit dunns river falls and if you have small kids leave them at the resort as it is a hard hike probably 13 and up, have a boat pick you up to go scuba diving & Dunns River Falls & shopping at the top & cruising drinking rum punch and listening to raggae music on a 2 hour cruse = priceless! have a great trip! "The good people we met, the good people we lost, along the way!"

EVERYTHING!!! I loved it all and took every moment to remember where I was when I was there! Leave work at home, let your hair down and be true to yourself "Love Life, you only get one of them", oh and PS, When your dead you have time to sleep so get up early enjoy the ocean sounds and evening sunsets, and in the middle remember where your at, Jamaica mon!

Be prepared

Our experience with customs was rough. They rummaged through all of our stuff and gave us quite a difficult time. Just do what they say and it will go smoother....the guy next to us was freaking out and they ended up cuffing him. Just not worth it.

Checking out the Fishes

by neurochic

Snorkeling is a nice activity to do while you are in Jamaica. You will see wonderful beautiful coral as part of a coral reef that you need to be careful not to damage since you get so close. The Carribean Sea that you swim in is this beautiful blue color so crystal clear and nothing like the murky dark waters we swim in in the Great Lakes of Michigan. Also you see such a wide array of very colorful fish that don't seem too scared to swim right up to you. If you are even more adventuresome and have the time, you can even get certified scuba diving.

Jungle trail tour

Go on the Jungle Trail Tour at Dolphins Cove, the guides are very knowledgeable, good and friendly. The kids really enjoy this tour and it's interactive too, you can touch the critters and birds, even be apart of the show. The guides take you from the ocean and talking about many sea creature then up through the tropical forest to see snakes, lizards, birds and other fun stuff. The tour is free when you pay for a swim at Dolphins Cove.

Beautiful coast

by tpangelinan

This shot is on the way to Ocho Rios from Montego Bay, on the main little road that runs along the coast of Jamaica. The water here is so clear and perfect you just want to get out and swim in it so bad. I could not stop taking photos of the water.
