We stayed at the Half Moon...
by Selly
We stayed at the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay. This is a huge resort with several swimming pools as well as a beautiful beach on Half Moon Bay. We were on an all-inclusive plan and enjoyed wonderful meals in an outdoor restaurant everyday. It only rained on us one day and that was for about 10 minutes. There were several pools on the property as well as the beach area. Water toys were available for our use including canoes, paddle boats, window boards (like a surf board but with a window, so that when you're lying facedown on the board, you can see what's under the water), small sailboats and sailing lessons were avialable. The 18-hole golf course where they hold the Jamaica Open is part of the Half Moon Resort. Besides the hotel restaurant, there was also the Sugar Mill Restaurant on the premises. Excellent meals were available there.

Nice honeymoon

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We absolutely LOVED riding the bikes everywhere. We loved our suite - the back leads straight to the ocean. It's like having your own private ocean in your backyard. The food was excellent - definitely go with the all-inclusive plan. Expect everything to be slow though. It took us over an hour to get checked in and it took at least 10 minutes to get your check at the end of each meal. Definitely try the River Walk tour it was so much fun. But DO NOT go to the water park. It totally sucks. The spa is great - I got a manicure done, a wrap, and a few massages and they were all wonderful. The only thing was that even though gratuity is included in everything, the workers still expect tip from you. Overall, a beautiful and relaxing place.
Not good.

This is DEFINITELY not the hotel for a woman traveling alone. They had me in a small, very mildewy room on the ground floor at the end of the hotel complex by a deserted beach. Guess I wasn't their target market... The setting was lovely, but the room quality (SMELL! and a bathtub that no one would consider soaking in unless they had been months without a bath...) and the eerie location ruined the experience - not to mention the groundskeepers who stood outside my room conversing (arguing?) loudly in Patois three feet from the patio and looking into my room when possible from 8:30 am to nearly 10:00 am as I bathed, dressed and had breakfast. Opening the doors, sitting on the patio, reading - nothing prompted them to move. They only moved on when a supervisor came by spoke to them and pointedly admonished me to keep my door closed when I left the room....not a CONFIDENCE builder. Couldn't get a porter to assist with checkout, but aside from that the staff was solicitous. It just seems that for the price of everything there, one could certainly do better.
Beautiful place!

If you have the money to go here then it's worth it. I would defianetly reccomend the package where food and drink is included because everything is so expensive here it definately pays for itself. Staff is great and the food was too. Defianetly a beautiful beach and resort. Lots of things to do and they seemed family friendly as well. I would def. go back!

Just returned from 5 days at the Half Moon. A perfect place for a family vacation. Lovely accomodations. Picture perfect setting. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff which bends over backwards to ensure you enjoy your experience. Security is terrific, so the kids can go off on their own, and the parents actually get a vacation too. You can do as much or as little as you want and never have to leave the compound.
Will be back again next year.
EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS

We got married at Half Moon and I can not say enough about the resort and the people. Debra Gordon is an angel. She was our wedding planner and everything was handled for us down to the very last details. I could not have asked for more. The resort itself is so beautiful. We loved the "cottage style" accomodations. The beach was always so clean and orderly. All of the workers were friendly beyond belief. The food at the restaurants was delicious and there was alot of variety. The only complaint which I even hate to bring up because the resort was phenomonal, is the dolphin experience. We got the dolphin swim and it was so disappointing. The dolphins had only been at the resort since march so you could not get the full experience of really swimming with them as you can at other islands. I would highly reccommend Half Moon to anyone, we will definitely go back for an anniversary. We wouldn't go anywhere else in Jamaica!

A friend and I travelled to Jamaica with a large group of people from Thunder Bay. We stayed at the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay. It was great to be there in the sun and warmth when Thunder Bay was in the depths of winter. It was -30 Celsius when we left Thunder Bay and +30 Celsius when we arrived in Jamaica!

Best honeymoon destination
by kailex
My fiance and I are looking into going to Jamaica for our honeymoon this September.
We'd like a resort with long white sand beach and also to go take excursions such as swimming with dolphins, waterfall adventure, jungle trails, etc.
Which island would you recommend for what we're looking for?
Thanks.

Excursions in Falmouth, Jamaica
by Heavens-Mirror
Hi
me and my auntie will be in Jamaica for 2 weeks from 16th March 2006. Theres a few things i need to ask.
We really want to do the Dunn's River Falls tour & also the Dolphin Cove where we can swim with the dolphins. Please can anyone tell me if they have done these tours and roughly how much they cost?
Also is it best to take Jamaican or US Dollars? I have been told everywhere prefers US Dollars so no need to take Jamaican.
Thanks in advance,
Stacey xx

Tour costs depend on where you are staying, and who you book it with...I stayed in Ocho Rios so just got a boat across and paid a local guide.

Hi Stacey. Take $US with you. All the tours you want to take accept only US money. The tourist shops in town and on the beach will take either. Don't let the beach vendors see you take out your money, the price will automatically go up if they think you have a wad of cash. I have been to Dunns River, it's a must see. I can't remember how much it was, but your probably looking at about $70US. It's a full day and lunch is included. Enjoy,
