safest and best priced hotel

by brritz

Me and three other friends are planning a trip to MO bay. Being college girls, we want to see the country side during the day and enjoy the night life. My mother says it is a very dangerous place. Where is a safe place to stay for the best price? Would traveling somewhere else on the island be better?

I would head to Negril instead of Mo Bay, the beaches there are nicer and you can arrange for daytrips from there that are equally as nice as the ones you can arrange from Mo Bay (and in some case the same ones). YS Falls, Mayfield Falls, the Appleton Rum factory are a few of the ones we enjoyed.

I always travel with my husband and we stay in all inclusives so I'm not going to be a lot of help on hotels or on security for young women. Do read the hotel reviews very carefully to see if people have security issues. And do exercise caution when wandering away from your hotel, young women are probably going to be hassled a lot more than an old married lady like me. I would highly recommend leaving the resort/hotel with guided tours only, if there are a bunch of you, you might be able to negotiate a fairly good per person rate.

Definitely check out Dunn's River Falls, and perhapsa hike up Blue Mountain.

When will you be visiting? This will somewhat influence your night life activities.

Travel Tips for Montego Bay

A bit of everything...

by miruka

The people are an amazing, intense, resourceful and quirky bunch. Be sure to visit the Hip Strip, but be cautious, as tourists are a prime target... The wonderfully bustling, chaotic little city is oddly offset by a very laid-back attitude

Sun tan Lotion

by tpangelinan

SUN TAN LOTION, the sun is killer here, we went to a tanning place for 1 month before going here to prepare our skin. SPF48 you will still get a tan. Camera is a must along wit hrechargable batteries & charger, ( Batteries are very expensive in Jamaica ) Suggest a laptop computer if you can, so you can download your photos to take more!

evangelist ceremony

by balieyes

on the way to downtown montego bay i found this very special event, an evangelist baptism. jamaicans are known for their religiosity. sundays is a holy day. most jamaicans put on their best clothes this day, and go to church. masses, as everything else in jamaica, are quite different here. if you have the chance, you should visit one of these ceremonies. if you want, you can take a look at an evangelist ceremony i attended in ocho rios

other recommended excursions in the area are: falmouth, an 18th century port town east of montego bay. a horseback ride at good hope plantation. a rafting trip down the great river or the martha brae,.. the list is almost endless
this is what montego bay is all about: vacation! thanks to its unique location and to the friendship of its people, jamaica is the perfect place to spend a holiday. whether you want to lie on the beach or practice some activities, montego bay has an offer for each vacationer. the area has some excellent golf courses. most of the upscale resorts have tennis courts, swimming pools and gymnasiums. and if you want to party, the offer is also varied. most of the times you will not even have to leave your hotel to find everything you want. need to buy anything? go to the shop. need to eat? go to the one of the restaurants. wanna swim? go to the private beach. wanna have fun? go to the disco. one week here will definitely recharge your batteries. the only problem is that you will not want to come back home.

Half Moon Shopping Village Rose Hall

by Raslady

This is one of many beautiful buildings on the whole Rose Hall complex, which includes the Hotel.
This band stand is at the end of the shops.
At the other end just inside the entrance, is a cafe bar, where you can sit and relax after your walk round the shops. The icecream is very good and the coffee wonderful, must have been Blue Mountain!
