by kumachan200x Steeped in the traditions of hosting decades of the talented and the successful, Round Hill welcomes guests with a style that is only born of good taste and long experience. Originally opened in 1953, Round Hill was conceived by well known Jamaican entrepreneur, John Pringle, whose mother owned and operated the former Sunset Lodge Hotel in Montego Bay. The 100-acre peninsula was part of Lord Monson's Round Hill Estate which was first a sugar plantation and later changed over to coconuts and pimento (all spice) which are still produced today. Twenty nine acres were subdivided and prominent American and European socialties were invited to build "cottages" and invest in the hotel. Shareholders have included Noel Coward, Adele Astaire, Bill Paley, Lord and Lady Ednam, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hammerstein, Clive Brook, Jack and Natasha Wilson, the Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tiarks and Viscount and Viscountess Rothermere
Guests may choose from Pineapple House Hotel with 36 superior and deluxe rooms overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Round Hill's seaside fresh water pool, or one of the 27 private villas dotted over the hillside, most with private pool. I got to stay one night (only one night boo!). We arrived at night and left after breakfast. I did think about having a sit in protest - but felt that my boss back in the UK may not be pleased!! I loved the styling of the rooms, the bathrooms were gorgeous, the view from the picture window stunning. I loved the fact that there is no TV in the room, that the louvered shutters can be opened to get a breeze. I loved the attention to detail, sandwiches and fruit left for us in the room, great bathrobes. I loved the breakfast, fruit cut to order, yummy local foos alongside the usual standards. But I loved the infinity pool most of all... I went for a swim at 23:00 as I knew I wouldn't have time before leaving the next day. It was illuminated, a great temperature and wonderfully relaxing.
Please see above!! The reading room. The bar - wow the photos are increadible, lots of great black and white shots of customers (some famous). I also liked the staff photo board where long serving staff are recognised, a nice touch. I also got to see in a villa, they are all decorated differently, but are lovely.
