Singers
What impressed me the most about Montego Bay was the welcome that we received at the airport. As we were walking to immigration, a group of singers were lined up singing "Come to Jamaica ". It made me feel so happy to be there.

My husband and I are going to Iberostar Grand May 5th through the 11th...looking for any good info or tips, also when would be the best time to book, should we now or wait some? Also looking for some fellow couples going to have a great vacation with!
If you are indeed talking about the Iberostar Grand (Rose Hall), you should know that it is about 17 miles east of the Montego Bay area. However there are several Rose Hall properties in Mo Bay proper. That said, the Grand is a opulent accommodation and you will be just fine there, - if you don't mind being away from the main Mo Bay area. Here is the Grand website, - and the Beach website, being in Montego Bay

You are likely not going to find travel companions here on VT, but you might try a travel buddy website, - like this one.

Irie! One love......d:o)
Amen to all that Eric says--he is the eminent Jamaica rastaman at VT so far----
I would suggest going to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary near Mobay (see the fantastic youtube video) where you can hand feed hummingbirds...weird but amazing....I have not done this but plan to on my next visit....Also try to get a day trip (or more) to Negril, either the beach (7 miles long, pure white) or the West End where I just came back from 6 days there---Jamaicans are hurting more than us, and visiting a place like the West End gives real Jamaicans a little money--- when staying at All Inclusives tends to just benefit foreign owners, albeit they do usually have local employees---
Jamaica is a lovely place and the people are very friendly---I love big Jamaican smiles, which I see on every visit! Have a great trip! Share some photos when you get back!

Irie!
We just came back from Jamaica and stayed at the Grand Rose Hall. You will love this hotel I'm sure. We had an amazing week. Yes the hotel is quite a ride from the so called "hip strip". It is quite a pricey taxi ride to town, but we weren't interested in going there as we had been on previous trips and found it the usual tourist trap. The hotel its self is lovely. Great everything from the room to pools, drinks etc. Not much night life though. They have live shows in the auditorium or in the Piano Bar off the lobby in the evening.
I don't think it would matter when you booked at that time of year. We always like to book well in advance though, so it would be up to yourselves I think. If you have any questions just ask. Carolyn

The main choises to drink are Appleton Rum and Red Stripe Beer, both of which are very good. You can visit the aAppleton Plantation for some education on the local brews. The Red Stripe beer is smooth and goes down easy on a hot day and feels perfect at the time.
This was the choice for our "mandatory" experience in a bamboo raft down a river. There are many other alternatives locally announced in the hotels, and they may be better than this - we had a calm descent for about 45 minutes, in what turned almost in a "botanical parade".
Nice, calm, relaxing, but without the touch of emotion providing by a section of fast running waters.
Stripping down to your bathing suit with saddle off, holding onto mane as this wonderous creature swims in the cove, after galloping full blast down the beach! For a horseperson this was the ultimate experience!
Along the road you will find plenty of Jerk Huts where you can stop for a bite to eat and a cold beer. Make sure you ask the locals for the best ones. For example, we asked our Taxi Driver, Henrry, for the best one & it just happend to be across our Hotel, the Holiday Inn Sun Spree in Montego Bay.

Q: How far in advance should you purchase your flight "Me and my boyfriend are planning to go to montego bay July 26-30 for a friends wedding. We haven't purchased our airline tickets..."
A: "I doubt at this point whether they will go down, now---We go to Negril every year and have found about 6-8 months ahead is the best time to buy---"
