Purple Rain Guest House: A Jewel in the "Real" Jamaica
I just returned from spending two weeks here ... my third visit to Little Bay. I've known the owner, "Cuge" and his family, for years. The cottage is clean, well maintained and very comfortable. Sitting on the porch watching the sunrise, listening to the roosters crow, and enjoying fresh brewed Blue Mountain coffee while Cuge's sister, Paula, prepared an excellent breakfast of ackee & saltfish, fried dumpling, and orange juice --- it doesn't get any better. The in-room mini-frige was well stocked with (my favorite beverage) Ting when I arrived. Dinners were (a variety of) fresh fish or chicken and local vegetables, and always delicious. There are several Jamaican style bars/eateries within easy walking distance. Shorty's On The Cliffs and Tiki's Guinip Tree both rock out with some serious reggae on the weekends. If you're looking for a place to relax and unwind, away from the tourists, jet-skis, and vendors, this is your spot.
This beautiful 3-room guest house is owned and staffed by Little Bay residents who take much pride in their accomplishments. The Drummonds are seasoned veterans of the hospitality industry and will make your stay at Purple Rain beyond special. There's no A/C, but the ceiling fan and constant ocean breezes through the louvered windows make it unnecessary. The price INCLUDES a delicious, home-cooked Jamaican breakfast and dinner daily. A bicycle is available for your use. Some of the "extras" available are massages, "manis" & "pedis" --- luxury spa experiences on a budget!

Garden Park: Garden Park Little Bay Jamaica
I find it sad when a little unspoilt corner of Jamaica is being heavily promoted on Virtual Tourist purely through greed and exploitation.
Many of us dislike the way that Negril has morphed into one big Coney Island resort of all inclusiveas and hustlers who hassle the tourist,
So it's a joy to discover a little piece of paradise that remains uncantaminated by the sprawling corporate all inclusive which atracts the obese tourists who trawl the beach looking for gigolos. Gross!.
So when I find that a particular guest house - Purple Rain is being heaving promoted on Virtual Tourist, My Space, and Trip Advisor by a woman who goes by the alias of 'Xamayka' it turns my stomach.
Why, because such heavy PR/Promotion is done throu sheer commercial greed, promoting her own property/ business in a poor country where locals need money.
On all the websites 'Xamayka' extolls the virtue of 'Purple Rain' but cleverly refuses to mention the price. Clever. 'Less than Average' she claims.
However we had the shock of out life when we arrived at Purple Rain to be told the weekly rate was $600! and the other house was even more expensive.,
Hey, I can get a flight from Toronto to MoBay and a week at a hotel for less than that.
So I felt sad, sick that corporate greed has crept into the last bastion of the real Jamaica - Little Bay.
Shame on you 'Xamayka' or Donna as your real name is. $600 for a week in a simple guest house is way too much.
Guys there are far better options in Little Bay. We found a charming rustic cabin for $25 per night and even better our $25 went to a Jamaican family, not some overfed overpaid American.
Shame on you Donna for spamming the net promoting your very expensive property!. Let's give Jamaicans a chance.
Rustic beautiful cheap.
