Took a trip alone as a single woman, loved the place and I don't have anything bad to say about Negril beach nor the cliffs. Of course your going walk around and people are going to try to sell you stuff...that's what they do for a living. You can say no thank you and walk away or stop and talk to them, they are the nicest and most interesting people and after a few days you have new friends. I was alone and never felt that I was in danger at any giving time, granted I did watch my back which I do anyways anywhere I go, I had the best time of my life and can't wait to do it again. I even met some people and went off the beaten path into their world and had the time of my life. Regardless of what anyone says I think it's an awesome place...Much Love and Respect!

Sunshine, sunshine reggae

by balieyes about risky business

another thing you will enjoy in jamaica is the local music. you hear reggae music everywhere, but calypso and international pop music are also very popular in negril. if you are a reggae or calypso fan, try to come to negril during negril's music festival, in mid march. this great music festival lasts three nights.

if you want to party, another great time to come to negril is in april, when the jamaica beachfest takes place. a month later the negril carnival takes placesome of the most

famous restaurants with live performances are "risky business", "roots bamboo", "alfred's ocean palace" and "fun holiday beach" in long bay. and "negril yacht club" and "sunset bar" in west end

Nice place!!!!!!!!!

by balieyes about Root Bamboo

in some of these restaurants local and international artists perform. some of the most famous restaurants with live performances are "risky business", "roots bamboo", "alfred's ocean palace" and "fun holiday beach" in long bay. and "negril yacht club" and "sunset bar" in west end the offer of places to eat is almost endless in negril. you find several stalls like this on the beach, where you can taste the local fast foods. mainly jerk chicken and patties. patties were my favorite cheap meal. there is the vegetable and the meat patty. you can't leave jamaica without tasting the jerk chicken either. the local dish is rice and beans. other local delicacies are the mushroom omelets, the crabs and the lobsters. in more expensive restaurants you can also have fish meals. meal prices, as everything else in jamaica, are not cheap, though.

A Great Source of Information.

by freerain

Hi Everyone,
I will be in Negril April 29-May 8th. Anyone else will be there and want to hang out, share some laughs and enjoy the nightlife?

Wish I could. Used to live in Jah Town. Go back often. I assume that the Canadian gov tells everyone to stay away from Kingston, like they do in the U.S., but the so-called danger is highly overrated. If you don't see Kingston you haven't been to Jamaica.

I know it is on the other side of the island but it is worth the trip. Gotta visit Bob Marley's house and museum, and check out Tuff Gong, his family studio...

One word of caution man! Be careful if you want to try the ganja man. Especially if it is offered by strangers. They have a habit of making money on both ends. You first, and then a phone call to Bwoy Blue. Better get to know some folks first and then ask.......just a thought.

Enjoy de island bwoy. One love......d:o)

Travel Tips for Negril

Soups, stews and Ital food

by dustmon about Ras Rody's

Ras Rody is a newcomer, sort of, to the Negril Cliff scene. He and his son Shadrach run this small roadside shack/restaurant close to Negril Escape on the upper part of Lighthouse Road.
They have soups, stews, veggies, mostly Ital (Natural, no salt, some vegetarian) available to eat there on a couple of stools, or to take away back to your cottage room. While I was there this past December 2009, he was being interviewed by Travel Channel foodie Samantha Brown for inclusion in her TV show. His version of rice and peas is delicious, and I also had a veggie stew---very spicy and good! Veggie stew and Rice and peas

Catamaran to Rick's Cafe

by Jonnyshark

The Party starts when you get on the boat. Booze cruise anyone? They play great reggae music the whole way. The boat stops at a little place where the brave can jump off some of the cliffs. Nice, not to high. The cliffs I mean. hahaha
Heading onward to Rick's Cafe. A little shuttle boat picks you up and takes you to this cafe overlooking the ocean. They have professional divers flying of the big rocks and even out of 60' trees. For the less adventurist there is a 15 cliff to jump off.
There is about a 45 foot cliff alot of people just jump off. I was a little more adventurist. I gave the guy watching the cliff a $10 and asked to dive off. He cleared the area and yelled at some of the other guys working there to watch out for me. Or so they could watch me break my neck. That didn't happen. What a thrill, Swan Dive, 45' ,POW hit the water and still alive. Great time, Truely a must go!
Bring some money for Rick's, great souvieners and drinks.
