Nice Resort

Just got back, Loved it!!!!-we got there they put us in section 3 third floor- asked to change rooms to section 2 -second floor- once room was avaliable they moved us- they really try to please you, staff was awesome!!! nice and they wait on you at all times, room clean and bar was stocked every other day. The buffet has something for everyone, most people forget there are several different cultures there. it would be impossible to please everyone, when in doubt eat a salad. They really tried to keep everything clean, put guest are impossible- they lay plates and glasses every where- one guy sit in a beach chaise- drank all day and never returned a glass ( collected at least 15)- lazy!!! a person was around all the time to pick up empty glasses he must of told them not to take them - like I said they really tired. we brought our own snorkle gear - was not disappointed - small reefs right in frount of hotel- the bay is great!!! I was not disappointed by location or hotel- hope to return

Unique Quality: both pools nice- they usually closed it at 6:00 0r 7:00 to clean it every them every day. great views,

Great! lively! entertaining!

by scottsrman about Riu Negril All-Inclusive

Great place to stay. There is always something to do if you want, and if not you can find a secluded area on the very large beach. The people are terrific, and the food was good. You usually have one or the other with all inclusive packages. Riu, had everything! The bartenders were lively and the "fire breathing" entertainment was spectacular! Simply one of the best places to stay in Negril, especially for the money, just Amazing! Lively people. seemed happy to be at work. Poolside bar, morning area, lunch facilities, dinner entertainment, Clean beaches, with plenty of room!

Loved the RIU Negril

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay at the riu negril (Oct 9-13). We had a good time. The place is beautiful and very clean. The rooms are nice, except it seemed like they turned the air down at night and the room always got very stuffy. Plus we always had to call for clean towels. The maid would always take the dirty ones, but never leave clean ones.
The food was something to be desired. This is the first vacation that I've taken and lost 8 pounds. We took a tour of the Mayfield Falls and really enjoyed that except the ride there. The pools are nice, but the beach is pretty murky. This was our first all-Inclusive so we have nothing to compare it to, but I think next year we will try some place new.

wonderful time at Riu Negril

by A TripAdvisor Member

Our family just returned from the hotel Rui Negril on October 10. We stayed there for 10 days and we loved it. It is a beautiful hotel and everything is always very well kept. The rooms are very nice and we had a room at the end of the 3rd building which was quiet a walk, but after all the food one consumes, the exercise is fine. My kids are 11 and 9 so they didn't visit the kids club much, but they had a very nice area for the little ones so mostly I saw 3 to 7 year olds. The entertainment team and all the stuff are very friendly and stuff at the bar definitey deserve a tip. The beach is nice and the water is very calm. Overall, it was the best hotel in the area and for the price it is really worth every penny.

Riu Tropical Bay

by Goienaga about Bloody Bay-Negril

Riu Negril is a five star hotel, it was open 2003 and is really wonderfull the beach is nice not crowded and about five hundred meters to the north is a very good snorkelling area, recommended to go with a buoy, there is some water sport around and it could be dangerous. The only problem, not to big for us, is the lack of night enterteinment or shows for kids at night. All the rest is wonderfull very good renstaurant, and facillities, the pool are not very big, but who needs a pool when you you have the sea as flat as a plate. The service is helping and good, and with this jamaican touch of small arrogance. Ye mon! This is mostly a relaxing resort, it has all the facilities of a five star resort, it has a good dive center also, and you can arrange car hiring, and so. Its enogh far from the town but you can get there easily about five hundred meters south there is a petrol station and some souvenirs stands cheaper than thouse into the resort.

The best Resort in Negril

by FunkyMunkey about Riu Negril Resort

Highly recommended (see full intro).
Service very attentive and happy to help. Food fantastic for all inclusive - we were a little concerned as this was our first all inclusive holiday and we're fussy eaters! But we were so surprised. The buffet every night was huge with a mind boggling selection, which alternated every night. My favourite was fresh shrimp on ice in a giant boat in the centre of the restaurant. 3 other restayrants of speciality foods available for pre bookings - one per restaurant per stay. St. Andrews was the best by far - top quality food, champagne reception and silver service.
Rooms large ensuite with really good air conditioning. Cleaned to top standards every day with special touches for each morning. We were never disturbed if lying in - the housekeepers work around your schedule.
Bars well stocked with EVERTHING you can imagine and all cocktails are iced and made fresh with fresh fruit - perfect. Dotted neatly around for easy access, but not swamping the beautiful beach.
Private beach is kept very well - cleaned and combed every evening. Our towels made into different shapes every day! My favourite has to be the swans in the shape of a heart with fresh red flowers.

Staff the friendliest and most helpful I have ever experienced.

A Jamaican Jewel

After reading some negative reviews about this resort I was really puzzled…Did these people stay at the same resort we did??

We vacationed at Riu Negril in August (2 couples with kids). I must say that we are picky travelers and have been to a few 5* Caribbean resorts.

Riu Negril is definitely a 5* resort with absolutely beautiful grounds and great service. The rooms are spacious enough with gorgeous, marble-accented bathrooms.
The only thing that might have been somewhat disappointing -- is the beach. It is rather small and was under works while we were there. We liked beaches in Punta Cana (Dom. Republic) better.
However, vacationing with little kids the size of the beach didn't bother us. You don’t need to get up early to seize a spot in a shade. The beach has a lot of palm trees so there is plenty of shade at any time of a day.

We loved water aerobics exercises and other beach activities. Our children enjoyed their day spent at Kids Mini-Club.

The food was awesome. Las Vegas buffet? No way! Abundant choices like-- fish, seafood, different kinds of meat, cold cuts, salads, lots of vegetarian dishes, etc; the deserts were to die for (and I never order desert in States!) – I can just go on and on.
Our kids loved freshly made tropical fruit shakes for breakfast. In fact, Riu Negril has by far the best food selection at all-inclusive resorts we’ve ever been too.
The 2 restaurants (Sir Andrew and Steakhouse) are worth to be checked out too. They serve delicious and beautifully decorated meals.

The hotel service and maids went out of their way to accommodate us. Our rooms were impeccably clean every day, with lots of fresh towels.
Locals are friendly too. Girlfriend and I went on a shopping tour to Negril and felt very safe and welcomed.

I can’t say whole a lot about nightly entertainment (other than kids program-which was fun for participants), as we were watching our children after 9 pm.
All and all Riu Negril is a Jamaican jewel. We’d go back any time!

Loved it!!

I just got back from Riu Negril Oct.1-6 and absolutely had a blast! This hotel by far was the best looking and had the best location than the other hotel's on the 7 mile beach. This place is huge and very pretty! The beach is clear when the sun is out and turquois blue. There are plenty of AI activities to keep you busy without ever stepping a foot outside the place! The service was excellent and the hospitality was tremendous! If you are a picky eater (I am) you will find things that are to your liking, (once you know what your palate enjoy's it is really good) and I constanty heard people saying how wonderful the food was. The mixed drinks are really good (somtimes very strong)! The beach party was really fun, (at night) they had a band and a bonfire! The rooms are huge and the maids work very hard to keep them prestine! We went on a sunset dinner cruise and a horseback riding adventure that the rep's worked with this on at the hotel and they were fun. I recommend getting a taxi across the street for a cheaper rate and going to the craft market downtown Negril to go shopping (better prices). I came very skeptical from some of the bad reviews, but walked away in ahhhhh!!!!

Hotel was very good

by TripAdvisor Member SimonC,Toronto

Just returned from the Riu Negril. Had a wonderful time. Every day the weather was great - only one afternoon of rain in the whole week.

The hotel was very comfortable and an absolute bargain for the price! Amazing value. The staff were always very gracious and friendly. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Unless you like walking, ask for a room in building 1 as the other buildings are quite far from the main facilities. The food was very good for a buffet. The drinks are a little watered down, but this stopped me from getting too drunk!

The shows are pretty cheesy but the entertainers tried really hard - they'd definitely get A for effort. The beach party is a lot of fun though. Wasn't too keen on their adaptation of "Grease." They did try very hard though.

We rented a car and drove to Montego Bay. There's not much there. It's quite run down in parts. Definitely recommend a trip to Mayfield Falls. Take a tour as it's imposssible to find if you drive. Also, for something different a trip to Rocklands bird sanctuary is interesting. Wild hummingbirds will feed from your hand!

I would definitely recommend the hotel - it's exceptional value. We had a wonderful time and the hotel staff were very friendly. Take lots of dollar bills to leave as tips.

Great trip!

Just returned from Riu Negril (Oct. 10-17) and had a great time. I agree with all of the recent comments - the grounds are spectacular, food is very good(we actually preferred the buffets to the ala carte restaurants), rooms are clean and comfortable, service was great.

The only real negative was the beach - not as much the sand and the size of it (it apparantly gained a whole foot of new sand from Ivan) - but the water itself is a little more murky with silt and some seaweed than some other spots in the same Bay, although it was not really that bad. We trekked across to the Riu Tropical Bay resort a couple of times which was about a 10-15 minute walk along an unimproved streach of beach (and partially had to walk in the water because of all the stuff washed up on the beach from Ivan), and the water there was perfect.

Also, another word of advice/caution is to bring lots of cash - small bills especially - for tips, etc. We brought travelers checks and had a hard time cashing them at the hotel, and there is no ATM for a few miles.

We also took a few trips arranged through the tour companies in the lobby and really enjoyed those.

All in all, an excellent resort. We took a boat ride up the seven mile beach and saw all of the other resorts, which really put the Riu in persepective - it is easily the largest, and arguably the most attractive in all of Negril - you just can't beat a brand new resort!

Don't understan alot of these people

by TripAdvisor Member thebills

Just got back from the RIU October 2, 2004
Not sure what some of these people were expecting. We found the hotel very clean and beautiful. The service was 5 star as well as the food, Steak at the steak house was amazing, as well as the fish at Sir Andrews.
The drinks are not waterd down, and if not strong enough for you just have to ask for more.
All of the staff could not do more for you, and allways happy, the entertainment staff were all great, Sherry anne was the best, if you go and see her please say hello from Jim (Carrey) from Canada.
The only thing that destroyed the holiday was that there was no face towels one day. (yea right)
Would recomed this hotel to anyone and would go back in a minute.

We will be at the RIU Negril in early July for one week. What can you tell us about it, ie, food, activities, quality of resort, accommodations, etc? Where is it in relation to the clothing optional resorts along the beach? What off-site activities are there to do? Any off-site packages to buy, any worth it? Thanks a lot!

RE: RIU Negril

by jelw

I can't answer your questions regarding the resorts. What I can share with you is to be cautious with the MANY children and people that will try to sell you handbags, ganja etc. You buy from the first child and they go tell the others then you don't get rid of them for the whole trip.
We had a lovely time but this definately made us a mark.
Outside Negril hand crafts and such are a different story.

My husband and I are also staying here from 21 Jan to 28 Jan. I have been able to find some photos at: www.riubambu.com/RIU_WEB_PAGES/ MENU/RESORT/NEGRIL/NEGRIL.htm.

I have also been reading some great reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. Apparently, there was no real hurricane damage except some trees lost on the beach and some trees down between this hotel and the sister resort next door, Riu Tropical Bay.

I hope you enjoy your stay. This will be our third trip to Jamaica, but the first to Negril. I would love to hear back what you think of the hotel. We love Jamaica.

When we went to Jamaica we called a guide taxi called Seymour : (00 1 876) 8090748 to pick up us at the airport , and also we went with him to Black River, Mayfield Falls, Dunns Falls, Ocho Rios, Nine Miles , Negril Shopping and Rick's cafe , also we went to a nice Beach Party in Alfred's (Negril).
Very friendly people , honest, chiper than other's , and good service.
Somebody in the web recommended us , and was great! We enjoyed very much our trip , because he show us the best of the island and all people Respect him !
