Kill 'em with kindness!
by laustic
At first I found Jamaicans to be taciturn. Perhaps they are just shy, maybe a little wary of tourists. Anyway, I was just persistently kind and in the end most of the hotel staff seemed to thaw a bit. Just don't expect Jamaicans to behave and act like Americans -- they aren't Americans and they have a distinctly different outlook and world view. Be tolerant and and open minded and you should be just fine!
Mayfield Falls Bamboo house
by DianeHansen
On the way to Mayfield Falls, there is a little store run by a wonderful family who will sell you shoes and other purchases. Danette makes a wonderful Coconut cookie and will sell you a cool coconut milk drink. They have a cute bamboo house on the hill. Wonderful family, Tony and Danette are really nice and will make you feel you have been touched by the real Jamaican spirit.
Red Snaper
by balieyes
the most famous beer in jamaica is "red stripe". it is a good beer, but in my opinion the "light red stripe" beer tastes better. another good local beer is the "guinness".
but this is the caribbean after all, and the number one drink is still the rum. there are several brands of jamaican rum. the most famous probably is "appletown", and the strongest is the "jb" rum (65% alcohol). too strong for you? try mixing it with juices. nothing can beat a cold rum punch
Another Cliffside Option for dinner
by dustmon about Catcha Falling Star
This has not been open very long in relation to some other restaurants in Negril, but they do a great job with fresh seafood! Snapper is a common fish served in Negril, and CAFS cooks it deliciously, pan fried or grilled. Lobster, in season, is also one of their specialities (Lobster season is from October until April). It is located right on the cliffs with ocean views and breezes---thatched roofing and comfortable chairs make for a good place to go for dinner on the Cliffs. Pan fried Snapper---fresh and juicy!
Gotta go horse back riding 2!
by tpangelinan
This is a great thing to do when you have about 3 to 4 hours to kill and you will get to see alot in this ride. The ride starts out leaving the farm, after a short time you come across the old mill, very cool. At this point your horse may stop at will for a nibble and no matter what you try he's not going any where! After a few minutes the horse decided it was time to go, because he sure wouldn't listen to me when I asked! Now on to the next point in this adventure. See next.
