Shields Negril Villas

Expect to relax here

We stayed at Shields for over a week during the Christmas season 2009 and found it to be very nice. My husband and I had done 5 days of all-inclusive further up the beach and moved to Shields when our son and his friend arrived on Christmas Day. The four of us stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment on the second floor. It wasn't new by any means, but was clean and comfortable and very quiet. The kitchen was small with not a very wide selection of utensils, but we only did breakfast, lunch and maybe a quick snack, so the setup was just fine. The air conditioner worked well to keep the room comfortable since when we visited was very very humid and hot.

The beds were comfortable, the bathroom clean, LOTS of pressure and hot water. Towels were white and numerous. The four of us left our swimsuits and towels on both the front and back balconies to dry, even overnight, and all was safe.

Vincent did an amazing job of keeping the beach swept and picked up. He got the higglers moving if it seemed they were starting to be pests. Danzel Fleming, the security guard was a sweetheart! We miss you, Danzel! The housekeepers were efficient and obliging and didn't sigh when they saw how much sand we brought into the room everyday! In fact everyone on staff was friendly and helpful.

As I had mentioned, we prepared many of our own meals, so can't comment on the food, only the blender drinks which were so-so. But we had Red Stripe and Absolute and Ting, and Rum Cream in the refrigerator in our room, so didn't really need the bar, and there was never any problem when we sat at the tables and had them, or enjoyed our coffee brought from the room in the morning.

Overall, we felt welcomed and would choose Shields again if we want an apartment-style holiday!

Unique Quality: Very close to the town of Negril where you can purchase your supplies.

The terrace over the bar area was a nice place to sit at night and listen to the music from nearby resorts and watch the stars.
