Charming beach cottages in a tropical garden
The rooms are beautiful. The colors of the walls, the homemade lampshades of vibrant flowers, artwork and large showers make you feel like you are in the midst of a romantic jungle scene! Even the bar countertop is made of every kind of wood found in Jamaica.
When I first arrived at the airport, there were complications at immigration and our flight was late, however, the taxi driver that Whistling Bird arranged for us, still waited the 2 hours it took for us to get there, along with cold Red Stripe! We arrived at 9 p.m.- long after the kitchen closed, but the chef nonetheless, prepared a gourmet, 5 course meal. It was heavenly, like nothing I have ever eaten in the states. My sister's boyfriend has an ongoing ulcer and didn't get sick once here. Back at home he is sick everyday. I think its that the food is so fresh and healthy, it was soothing for his stomach. The staff has a long list of people they go through for fine jewelry, art, spa services, live entertainment and transportation, so I knew I was getting best deal. They arrange snorkeling tours for example, through Captain Moses' Glass-Bottom boat. It was cheap and I trusted it would be safe because the owner has been working with Moses for the past 10 years. Some of the artwork around the resort was painted by famous artist, Errol Allen. When he paints here, people line up just to see him. Long story short, great accommodations. The staff go out of their way for their guests. And since the resort has been here since 1985, they have a lot of advice about where to eat, what to see, the cheapest options or the most luxurious hot spots. I'm glad I have their expertise to rely on!
Unique Quality: Uniquely designed cottages- bright colored walls, artistic lampshades and artwork, handcrafted design. The resort is very colorful.
Many of the staff members have been here for years, so they even took me around Negril, showing me some of the favorite local spots. The garden on the beach is very lush and there are many private areas to relax. One of the other things I appreciated (as a single white female) was that the staff would run off beach vendors who seemed as though they were bothering me. And not just the beach vendors, but those persistent Jamaican men! Another thing I appreciated was that one of the staff members actually climbed a palm tree and brought me a fresh coconut to drink from when I wasn't feeling well. Simple gestures that meant a lot.
It's also wheelchair accessible (walkways, rooms and showers).
