We had a wonderful stay at Sunset Waters. It is a quiet resort and one of only two all-inclusives on Curacao (the other being Breezes). It's known as a dive resort, but though we weren't divers we were certainly made to feel welcome. The staff is the real star of the resort. They are ever accomodating and friendly. You feel like you're staying with real good friends. The resort is not big, nor is it fancy. However the staff and the food make up for this. The food is excellent. Other than a couple of buffets a week, the rest of the meals are a la carte and all that we had were wonderful. The beach and lagoon are very nice, though water entry can be tricky with coral rocks. The hotel offers free daily shuttle service into town and it is easy to make special arrangements if you talk to the driver. There are extra charges for the shuttle if you use it off their scheduled hours.
The snorkeling at the beach is supreme. We have been many places and we were very impressed with the snorkeling. Much to see even right in the lagoon, but a venture out of the lagoon opens up a whole new world. When we were there, there were many whale shark sightings just off the beach. If you want a quiet, friendly, unpretentious hotel with wonderful snorkeling and diving off the beach, Sunset Waters is for you. I cannot recommend it more highly and I can hardly wait to go back.
Unique Quality: Sunset Waters is a small resort with ony 70 rooms. There is a large restaurant under a palapa roof (open air walls) which is full if the resort is at capacity. There is a small but very enjoyable pool. Views from the ocean side rooms are very good as the buildings sit at the top of a small cliff. However, garden view rooms are very nice as well, though without the views. There is a pool bar and a bar in the restaurant. Though there is a bar at the beach, it is usually not open, however, staff will bring drinks to you on the beach, so no fear of going dry! There is a mini golf course, a walking trail, a snorkel trail (experienced snorkelers only on windy days recommended), a well respected dive shop, a small gift shop and a small gym. There is a casino, but it hasn't been used since present owners took over several years ago. A nude beach is available. Water toys are available as is snorkel gear. Cold water is provided on the beach all day long. Beach loungers and floating mats are available. The resort offers a free weekly sunset cruise which is worth it. The rooms are basic, but larger than most resort rooms.
Directions: Santa Martha Bay, northwest of Willemstad. Drive towards west end of the island and follow signs for Santa Martha Bay.
