Deep Blue View exceeds expectations

by TripAdvisor Member samneric

We arrived at the DBV for a two week vacation in Mar 07. We had read the reviews on trip advisor and although we are not typically the type of people who would seek out a Bed and Breakfast type resort, the great reviews intrigued us. My husband has been diving for 4 years and has his advanced certification. I had only gotten my certification last Sept. We loved the fact that the boat was not crowded and the dives were fabulous. On days that we didn't boat dive there were tanks and lots of shore dives to choose from. Breakfast was excellent, there was always fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and whatever else you could want.( I recommend pancakes). The room was great, very comfortable. Ester and Menno (the owners) are extremely welcoming. We enjoyed the interaction with the other guests as well. Over breakfast and in the evenings before dinner we shared dive stories and other stories. The island has great restaurants, many to chose from. We definately enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the quaintness of a small property and the excellent hospitality of the DBV.

Absolutely superb

We’re not sure whether we should add yet another glowing review for DBV because we’ll never be able to get a booking for our next visit! We cannot speak highly enough of Esther and Menno and their warm hospitality and quality of care at DBV. We were concerned about being away from the sea but it wasn’t an issue. The common areas, with the pool and hammocks in the shade, are so relaxing with great views out over the sea and great breezes that it never felt like the middle of suburbia. We enjoyed hanging out there late afternoon when we came back from diving. And you are only about a 5-10 min drive away from the sea – given that a car is essential for driving around to shore diving sites anyway, this wasn’t a drama. The common eating table was also a highlight and we met so many interesting people, many of whom were on repeat visits to DBV. We can see why.

One of us did the PADI open water certificate with Esther and again couldn’t say enough about the personalisation of the course to meet particular concerns (like head under water!) and the help to gain confidence and skills.

Other notes: the breakfasts were great and healthy; the dogs always endearing and entertaining (and this from not-a-dog-lover); the two-tank boat dives great fun and some brilliant sites… looked forward to the ‘Esther’ muffins and fresh fruit between dives; the guest fridge and facilities, including the ‘magic’ table that made dirty dishes disappear, meant you didn’t always need to eat out; and the Friday rum punch cruise and bbq were great. All in all excellent and highly recommended.

Top notch hospitality

In addition to this being a beautiful and comfortable place to stay while in Bonaire, the Deep Blue View's owners, Menno & Esther, are extremely capable and patient hosts.

They took care of all our needs, starting with our first morning's orientation. Esther pointed out prime snorkeling spots on the map, based on our assessment of our abilities, as well as outfitting us with the snorkeling gear we would use all week.

They clearly can accomodate visitors of a wide range of skill levels. We did two snorkel tours with Esther, both very exciting and challenging, which was perfect for us. We started out as timid snorkelers, but by the end of the week, we did our very first dive with Esther.

The room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The outer area includes comfy hammocks, a pool, several tables, and lounge chairs. It's all very relaxing. Oh - and - they have two wonderful dogs, Bully and Usco, who are great hosts as well. We plan to go back annually.

Dreaming of DBV

by TripAdvisor Member boatergirlie

I am sitting here in my office dreaming about my next trip to Bonaire and it will definitly include a stay at Deep Blue View. My husband and I had just finished our OW scuba certification a month prior to arriving to Bonaire so not only was it our first time to the island but it was also out first scuba trip. We were a bit nervous at first but after our orientation dive with Menno all our worries melted away. After that first dive Menno took the time to point out on the map where the shore dives were that would be approprite for us and we also arrainged some boat dives. We loved the freedom of shore diving but also LOVED the guided boat dives with Menno. It was great to not have a large group (just us and 2 other couples staying at DBV.) We also liked that we were not on a strict schedule either - hey this is vacation right??

Another highlight that I recomend is doing a night dive with Ester. I was not sure I would like night diving and I didn't - I loved it! We saw HUGE tarpon, seahorse, octopus, crab and sleeping parotfish! Next time I will do a couple more night dives for sure. Ester is also an amazing cook and will make anything you might be craving for breakfast. The sunset cruise and BBQ was so much fun too and we realy enjoyed getting to know the other guests.

We thought we might miss being on the beach because all of our prior caribbean vacations we have been on the water. I have to say we did not miss it at all. In fact we decided that we saw more of the island because we were not tempted to just vege on the beach the whole time. It is such an easy drive to anywhere on the isalnd that this should not deture anyone. We enjoyed the "off the beaten path" feel of DBV. Menno and Ester really do their best to make you fell right at home and we can not wait to return! If you visit make sure you ask if Jenn and Derek's Bucket-O-Beer is still around!

Exceeded our Expectations!

by TripAdvisor Member LoriPuyallup

We had a wonderful stay at the Deep Blue View. There are four rooms and it is fun to get to know the other guests. You have access to a refrigerator to store items in if you want to purchase food from one of the local supermarkets. There are comfortable two person hammocks located in the shade to relax in. The grounds are beautiful and inviting. The dive lockers are large and well designed. But best of all... are the owners. Menno and Esther are warm, fun and friendly people. They helped make our visit more complete. In fact, Menno is a real kick-in-the-pants. If you don't enjoy smiling, don't come to the DBV. If you do, you will be spending a good deal of time smiling and laughing. It is rare to find a business that meets and even exceeds our expectations. At the DBV this seems to be the standard.

We enjoyed the health and life on the reef while diving, kayaking through the mangrove forest at Lac, and snorkeling at Sorobon Beach. Having a rental truck, (part of the package deal), was very handy. It was fun to see the wild goats and donkeys wandering in the neighborhoods. Down on the waterfront, there is a clean and well lite sidewalk to take long evening strolls on. We always felt safe. We enjoyed several dinning locations, but were not impressed with the Bambo.

We plan on returning again.

Loved Deep Blue View!

by TripAdvisor Member Scili

This review comes a little late but we had a fantastic time at Deep Blue View. We went there as part of our honeymoon last October, and have daydreamed about it ever since we left. All the glowing reviews that you read about this place are absolutely true. The place is very well-run, as the rooms are spacious and clean. Esther and Menno immediately make you feel like you are part of their family. They run a top-notch diving operation, including how they maintain their boat and diving equipment. You can tell that they really care about your diving and lodging experience. Esther is a very talented chef--make sure you have some of her apple pie! You can tell that Esther and Menno really care about the people who stay there and about the quality of their establishment, which shows in the little touches throughout your stay. We could not have been happier with our stay there and just hope that we can a chance to go back sometime soon!

Addiction

by TripAdvisor Member JoopSabina

We had a complete new holiday experience in may 2007.

We transformed from snorkelers to open water divers.

It is the best intimed resort in our (holiday)life and meeting these lovable resort managers Menno and Esther was really great.

And not just because we are Dutch, we met very nice American couples, so we could refresh our English.

We hesitated to share this holiday experience because it was already hard to book our next trip this year in september!

Oud advice: Go there en have a complete holiday and this addiction is very healty

Our best vacation!

by TripAdvisor Member EclaireAtlanta

This was our first trip to Bonaire as a Scuba Diving trip. I was a little unsure about the Bed and Breakfast setting - but it was a fabulous experience! We had a very large fridge to store our food and drinks - basically an outdoor kitchen. And diving with Menno was great! I loved the fact we could set our own diving schedule. I rate this vacation an A++++ and could go on and on about how wonderful the diving is, how nice the Deep Blue is, and how fabulous Menno and Esther are. They treated us very well. But, you need to experience it for yourself. We can't wait to go back again!

Return to Deep Blue View

by TripAdvisor Member Vrystater

We recently returned to the Deep Blue View for a second diving holiday .

Our first visit was in December 2006 to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Our time spent with Esther and Menno was marvelous. They became friends for life after a week at their beautiful B&B. They managed to turn a lovely home into an oasis in paradise. Special highlights are breakfasts, sun-set cruise, boat dives and the BIG barbecue night. Two gourmet cooks under one roof! At Deep Blue View you can be yourself, as active or passive/relaxed as you want to be. We enjoyed meeting the 3 other couples that stayed there at that time.

This time we brought our 3 teenage children along and Menno and Esther had the patience to guide them through their open water certification. We are forever in their debt for the way they handled the kids. Esther and Menno , you are fabulous hosts. The number of returning guests speaks volumes.

This was one of our best family holidays ever. We'll be back at the Deep Blue View, hopefully very soon.
