Centrally located on Calle La Calzada, it's hard to miss the extraordinary facade of Hotel Dario. The inside restoration work completed with love by a former Catalana, Hotel Dario has the atmosphere most well-healed tourists will want. Named after the famous late 19th century Nicaraguan writer and ambassador to Spain, the building has inner courtyards with fountain, tropical flowers, and swimming pool, rooms with ornate tin ceilings, mahogany doors, and checkerboard of pueblo colored floor tile. For those trying to visit Granada on the cheap, this is not the place because rates are equal to a three star hotel in the USA--a little over $100- per night. But, in reality, there's no bargain to be had within walking distance of Calle La Calzada.
Unique Quality: Outstanding full sized breakfasts. Dinner in the restaurant is good, but on the expensive side. Swimming pool is refreshingly clean, having a waterfall fountain backdrop. Some rooms have views, but in our case, we didn't want a noisy street side room, but rather a cozy double in the back. Hot water was slightly slow in arrival and a/c in our room could have used a freon recharge. Transport help at the front desk tends to steer patrons to overly prices private taxi's.
