Hotel Terrasol - great place to stay in Granada

    by

We arranged with the hotel to be picked up at the airport and even though our flight was 90 minutes late our driver was right there at the airport waiting for us. We were at the hotel 45 minutes later - since it was pretty late when we arrived the night guard let us in and gave us the keys to our room. The room was extremely tiny but had a comfortable bed, a/c, cable tv, security box, and a small balcony that looked over the street. Breakfast was included consisted of fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and croissants. There is a computer with Internet access available for guests in the lobby. The owners were very nice and helpful giving us tips and directions around the city. The only drawback to this hotel was no hot water in the shower (it's not cold but tepid) and the a/c didn't seem to work very well during the day (I think the a/c compressor was located on the roof in the blazing sun) but worked great at night.

  • Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Granada

The Hotel Terrasol in Granada is the perfect place to stay in the charming little City of Granada. The place is owned by a married couple, Victor and Katja, who built the hotel from the ground up just last year. They are wonderfully attentive and helpful; within minutes of arriving they directed us to many must-see sights and booked us on an afternoon boat ride on Lake Nicaragua to explore Las Isletas.

The hotel was a little difficult to find since it is so new and not a lot of locals knew where it was. It is located 3 blocks west and 1 block south of the Parque Central, right down Barricada Avenue from Iglesia de la Merced (climb the bell tower there, it is only a dollar!).

Our room was on the small size which was fine by us. There are only 10 rooms in the whole hotel so you can be sure that anything you need will be taken care of. Our room also had a TV, AC and a balcony that we enjoyed sitting on in the morning. The hotel also has a restaurant which we didn't eat at but definitely will next time we visit.

We walked by many other hotels while we roamed the streets and were very glad we were staying where we were. The Hotel Terrasol is the ideal place to stay while in Granada. For more information about Granada you can read about our visit on our travel blog at patrinadoetheglobe.blogspot.com.

More about Hotel Terrasol

Pleasant and clean

by TripAdvisor Member turtlefan8

We stayed one night at Hotel Terrasol and really enjoyed it! The two Nicaraguan owners speak English very well and were very helpful to us. The hotel is clean, safe and well decorated. Breakfast was included (fresh baked croissant and fruits... delicious!) and the price was very reasonable. The only hiccup was that there was no hot water, however the water temperature was fairly comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a peaceful stay in Granada.

Can't say enough great things about Hotel Terrasol!

I have to echo all the other wonderful things that have been written here about Hotel Terrasol. I booked it for my husband and I based on the reviews of the restaurant and looking at their website. The owners have created a very small, welcoming, charming hotel that feels like it is in a restored colonial mansion (although it was built by the owners from the ground up.) The room was not large, but was perfectly adequate and clean: comfortable bed, TV, AC, lock box with a key, and we even had a balcony that looked over the street and up to the volcano. There was no hot water, but the last thing we wanted after trudging around in the heat was a warm shower. The restaurant was fabulous. The chef is the former executive chef of a gourmet supermarket chain in the Bay Area, California. He has created a menu that is California cuisine reinvented with fresh, local, Nicaraguan ingredients. Try the pasta with octopus, the chicken with rum and papaya, pork with sour orange and cilantro, and do not forget the chocolate terrine for dessert! After mountains of rice and beans in Costa Rica, finding this place was like stumbling into heaven – and we didn't eat anywhere else while in Granada! On top of this, the prices were very reasonable, and everyone who worked at the hotel was very friendly and pleasant. The breakfast was also quite good. My husband and I are already plotting our return to Granada so we can stay at Hotel Terrasol again.

Love it, Great Art Advice

by TripAdvisor Member klabba

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Terrasol. After some hiccups in San Juan Del Sur, we were so relieved to arrive at this gem. The rooms are very cute (ask for the ones with the balcony) and extremely clean. Victor and Katya lived in San Francisco for a while, but are Nicraguan/Costa Rican, so the Hotel is blend of both styles. They made us feel right at home, the restaurant is wonderful, and they have really put a lot of time and care into their hotel.

The most wonderful part for us though was the artwork hanging throughout the hotel. We asked about it, and it turns out everything was painted in Granada, so Victor gave us directions to the artist's studio and we got to buy wonderful paintings right off the wall. Victor even stopped by to check on us while we were in mid-purchase. This is a wonderful hotel - I highly recommend it!

Home away from home

My husband and I have just come back from a holiday in Granada, Nicaragua and our choice of hotel could not have been better.
Victor and Katya lived in the USA and Costa Rica for over 15 years before returning to their home country. They fully understand the needs of their guests and during our stay they ensured that we felt 100% at home.
The staff at Terrasol completely goes out of their way to provide visitors with an unique experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioning, hair dryer and the breakfast is delicious. It can get a little bit noisy, but that is Granada!.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Thank you both for an unforgettable experience.

Could not ask for more

We stayed at the Hotel Terrasol because of the reviews on-line. It turned out to be one of the nicest and frienliest hotels I have ever stayed in. Victor or Katya are almost always on site and speak fluent English. They were helpful with tours and city information. It was so nice to just sit in the lobby and talk with them. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was exceptionally good. The hotel is walking distance to everything we wanted to see in Granada. If we go back to Granada, this is where we will stay.

Insight, excellence, and welcoming

by TripAdvisor Member TravelingMidwesters

In preparation for our three week tour of Nicaragua in July I used TripAdvisor to find the Hotel Terrasol in Granada. I was excited to read about the hotel and booked a room through the website.

Now, after we stayed there for a total of 6 nights (and even though I am joining in on the already highly positive reviews they've already received) I feel it is important to echo these so that people understand that this is a very special place, run by very special people.

We ended up bookending our trip at the Hotel Terrasol. Beginning when they picked us up at the airport and brought us to the hotel for four nights and ending when we spent our last two nights in Granada and they brought us to the airport. The rooms were excellent, the service thoughtful and kind, the food great, but it was the insight into the city, into where and when to go, into what to bring home (coffee, rum, beautiful pottery), and Victor and Katya's deep desire that we enjoy our trip to their country of birth that made our stay extraordinary. We had a wonderful trip to Nicaragua made even richer by our stay with them.
