Interesting

Attractive resort, lots of hot water, beautiful beach, average food and dreadful but plentiful wine.
Beware of the road in!

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Not excatly Maui !!!!!

After being told by numberous people about this place I was expecting something better. People speak of this place like it's the Four Season Resort in Maui !!!!!! Believe me it's FAR FROM IT !!!!!!!!! First you have to endure a hour and half drive from Managua over some very beated up'd roads....but remeber your in a 3rd world country and in the 3rd poorest country in the WESTERN Hemisphere !!!!! Former beach house for the former ruler of Nicaragua, the Spanish company Barcelo has taken it over and renovoated much of the property......the hotel is all inclusive...all domestic beers and liquor and all meals....but they also have on hand other types of drinks, but you'll pay top dollar for them though !!!! Facing the mighty Pacific, the hotel is literally oceanfront. Horses, jet ski's, and surfboards can be rented, of course at an added cost....but still very resonable. The rooms are spacious and the staff very helpful in all requests we had. You won't have to leave the property for any reasons. Come during the week and you'll have the place all to yourself along with the various Canadians, but on weekends it gets very crowded with the locals.....Avoid Holy Week "Semana Santa" at the end of lent....this place gets out of control with huge crowds !!!!!

Unique Quality: Oceanfront

Great Beach Resort....

We stayed for 2 weeks in February 2003. Although the resort is rather large, it's very well laid out so that the majority of the rooms are only a short distance to the beach and at least one of the pools. However, some of the facilities (like the a la carte restaurant) are up a hill from the beach so the resort is not designed for anyone with a disability. The resort offers a good range of facilities including four wheelers (sorry, but I can't remember the hourly rate) and the usual beach equipment. For those that enjoy reading on the beach, there is even a book trade. The buffet restaurant was very good; they kept the meals fairly varied even over a two week span. The a al carte restaurant was disappointing to the point that we only used two of our four allocated meals there. The rooms all had a mini bar that was stocked daily with beer, water and soda. Staff were generally friendly and although few spoke good English they tried very hard to understand and be understood.

Unique Quality: Two things stand out in my mind about the resort. First is that our rooms was a in a bungalow. Each bungalow contained 4 rooms. It was like living in a quiet little tourst village for the two weeks. (We did feel badly for the people who ended up in the main building). Secondly, the tour company offered a great selection of tours. But what made them really great was that if you had 6 or 8 people they would organize the tour to your specifications. We met up with a few other couples there and that's what we did. The tour company was most accomodating and their rates for the personalized tours were in line with the standard ones. The tour company staff were very well versed in the history and geography of the area. The canopy tour through the coffee plantation was unbelievable!!!!!

Best private beach

by Varinia about Hotel Barcelo, Montelimar Beach

Hotel Barcelo is a great deal for families or for couples. The best deal you can ever find... room and meals included. The beach, the water, everything is spectacular except the FOOD, it was terrible.
Tips:
-ask a local to make reservations for you and to ask for special offers. Do not make reservations online, you will pay more.
-if you don't like the food, tell the manager... Amazing views, great pools more than 3, all you can eat and drink, no place can beat this place.
Barceló Montelimar Beach Resort and Casino, a five-star Nicaraguan jewel, is nestled amid the lush tropical rainforests on the glittering coast of the Pacific Ocean.

The best Hotel to stay at, if...

by TanjaE

The best Hotel to stay at, if you want to visit the places I've visited, is the Hotel Alhambra in Granada. It calls itself the finest Hotel in Grananda. It is very central located, just at the Parque Central. You can book all those tours and trips in the Hotel.

For people who prefer staying in a 5 star all inclusive Hotel at the beach close to Managua, the Hotel Barcelo Montelimar is the first address.
please contact the Hotel The Hotel Alhambra is located inthe heart of the historical centre of Granada. It's a small hotel, but a good accomodation for people, who like to travel to be close to the native and learn about culture and history of a country. Granada (founded 1524) is the oldest City of the mainland America.
The rooms are small and clean. Theres a small pool and a bar and restaurant (located on the terrace) with a great view on the daily live.

hotel Barcelo Montelimar is a typical five star Hotel with pool, all inclusive, fitness and entertaining programs (just the way those hotels are in each country. You will not even know that you're in Nicaragua...nothing for people with cultural interests).

Barcelo Playa Montelimar

by tmozer

My wife and I are considering a stay at Barcelo Playa Montelimar soon and would be flying into Managua. I would like to know what options I should consider for getting from the airport to the hotel (on the west coast).

Transport

by BOMA

Hi!
Have you ask the hotel? Here in Nicaragua, a taxi driver could charge you between 50 and 60$ because from Granada, which is 1 hour longer, my driver charge me 50$.(friendly price)
