The Old Intercontinental

Crown Plaza used to be the intercontinental hotel in the 80s and was the seat of the government for a while. Usually when Nicaraguans talk about Intercontinental, they really mean Crown Plaza.

Best Accomodation in Managua

Every major city I visited in Central America had at least one very nice hotel - a place to house visiting diplomats, business executives and other VIPs. That Hotel in Managua is the Crown Plaza.

Although I did not stay at the Crown Plaza, I did visit the hotel hoping that the concierge could help me to find a tour of the city. There were no tours available for me to join on that day, apparently because there were hardly any tourists in town. Although I had seen a listing for Grayline tours of Managua, I learned that sightseeing tours are only available for groups and with advance reservations.

The Crown Plaza Hotel is very conveniently located, between the Plaza Inter Shopping Center and Loma de Tiscapa. The hotel claims to have the largest and most modern meeting lounges in Nicaragua, accommodating groups of from 10 to 2000 people.
