Beautiful place in the surrounding hills of Matagalpa. Very secluded and densely forested. This cabin, German styled, resort is also a working coffee farm. A great place to just chill out for a few days and get away from the heat. The weather here is always cooler and most nights year around are cool enough to require a sweater. Check out their website www.selvanegra for more details. Things to do near by would include white water kayaking. See www.inspirationtours.org for details.
Cute, German designed cabins tucked away in a dense forest. Peaceful and good food.
I've been to Matagalpa 8 times and have always stayed at the Blue Fountain. It is in town and within walking distance of everything. The rooms are equilivant to an american 1 or 2 star but for Nicaragua it would be a 3 star hotel. The whole place is safe and clean. The food is wonderful, it is served family style. The women that run the hotel are fantastic. They hand wash the bed linen's everyday and dry them on the line outside. Most rooms have their own bathroom and hot water most of the time. At night the hotel is locked shut with a male guard watching over everything. The Hotel clerks speak a little english but they can understand pretty well. This Hotel is way better than Selva Negra. Inside the hotel is a small open air garden where the meals are served close by. The coffee is the best I've had in all of Nicaragua, it's on the strong side. You will not be disappointed staying here. The place is always full so I would get reservations well in advance. No airconditioning but nice fans.
