...: General tip

The information I found on virtual tourist and ViaNica's website, before going to Nicaragua, proved to be quite useful.
In case you are NOT looking for a quite-a-few-stars hotel, belonging to a famous chain or something similar, then obviously, it would be nice to have a few names of hostels, pensions, etc...
The places where we stayed at were far from spectacular, but they seemed quite OK. I will mention them on the other pages I intend to make.
Here, I'll add a few things that I think could be useful:
- Accommodation can be found from 5 dollars per night, which is REALLY cheap, to... well, 30, 40, and more dollars per night (not including the well known hotels). The comfort level is quite different as well... So have in mind. You cannot pay 5 dollars and expect a lot.
- To me, it makes a huge difference to have a private bathroom. And I would suggest it, as the hygiene level in many places was a bit... hard to swallow.
- I didn't consider the A/C to be very important. I was wrong. Just like in Turkey, it makes a HUGE difference to be able to put the A/C on and renew the energy... Again, depends where... Somoto (in the northern department, called Madriz) is not a hot place, but Leon is. Leon was a shock to the system... So, accommodation with at least a FAN, or maybe even an A/C, can be a great idea.
- One more thing... I had an idea to sleep in Leon, and maybe go to the beach (the distance is about 15 kilometers and you'd need to go by bus to either Poneloya or las Peñitas) during the day and then go back. NO! Most beaches, if not ALL, don't have showers and this is flour-like sand I am talking about, which means you will need a thorough shower as soon as you decide to leave the beach. Just have that in mind. And... now that I mentioned the coast close to León... There are much more accommodation places in las Peñitas than Poneloya... The bus makes a circle and first goes to Poneloya and then passes through Las Peñitas.
