bedding down..

displaced americans who own... miraculously... a purple house. luckily, the proprietor met us at the bus station and handed us a flyer, or we'd never have found the place. it may have been a bit pricey for a panamanian hostel, but the place was spotless, friendly, and internet access readily available. be careful walking around after dark, as there aren't streetlights on any of the sidestreets, and the multiple rustlings we heard weren't dogs. ...and it's apparently easy to get turned around... none of the food nearby (which is little...) is worth mentioning here, but even with the curfew (midnight, i think?) this was a great place to spend a more comfortable night in the middle of nowhere. David seemed a decent city, but it was only a stopover from Bocas del Toro to Boca Chica. the Purple House owners were unbelievably helpful in nailing down transportation to chica... so any kickbacks they receive were worth it for us. if you have the ability, i'd ask a local with a truck rather than rely on referred transport from the owners. if it hadn't been a group of 7, then the $70 we paid for cabfare for 1 hour would've been tougher to swallow. but, hell, the driver had a pink fur dashboard... so all's well.
