Don Pepe Hotel & Artesanias

Don Pepe Hotel is on the corner one block from the market. It's painted yellow and green – not a very nice combination indeed – but it catches the eye. Things get much better when you get inside. The clean and tidy rooms with cable TV, the comfortable beds and the spotlessly clean bathrooms with hot water are very good value.
Every room has its share of the terrace, which surrounds the building, and fine green views to the valley. A hammock is available to the most ...weary traveller. Prices are 25$ for a single room, 30$ for one person in a double room and 40$ for two. Prices are negotiable.
There is a decent restaurant downstairs.
There is another hotel next to it with similar prices named Hotel Residencial El Valle [(507) 983 6536 – (507) 6615 9616 www.hotelresidencialelvalle.com ].
Both have souvenir shops on the ground floor packed with souvenirs and local artcraft. Prices are much higher than in Panama City. (Tel: 983 6425)

Los Capitanos: Panama Bland

We stayed at the Los Capitanos for two nights in April of 2006. We paid about $57/night, including breakfast. The grounds are attractive and well kept. The room was large, a bit on the dark side, TV in room but no English channels. The walls are hollow, we could hear the people in the next room. The bed was not comfortable, the sheets were very thin and the pillows unusable. Breakfast was OK, not a wide variety. We had dinner there one evening, a bit on the pricey side. The owner is a talkative sort who likes to entertain the guests in the restaurant with stories of his life's adventures. Internet was available for a charge, not cheap by Panama standards. We would not stay there again. In fact, when we returned to El Valle a couple weeks later on our way back from the highlands, we stayed elsewhere.
